Combining a country setting with a sea view on the Telscombe Cliffs, The Smuggler’s Rest has a uniquely beautiful backdrop to enjoy the traditional British pub cuisine. This view and food can be savoured from the al fresco beer garden or by the log-fire in colder climes, and the pub features a more modern, bright appearance, letting in the plentiful seaside sun.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Smuggler’s Rest menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Smuggler’s Rest ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Situated in Peacehaven on the sea front, there is a minimal walk to the ocean, or it is a 11-minute drive to Brighton.

Really nice ambience with attentive yet discrete service. Quality of food always consistent.

Very good meal, £15 per head for 2 courses and a drink for 5 people. 2 sandwich meals and 3 mains plus dessert Had a free dessert for signing up to their newsletter. Good service. Main drawback was that we were seated by the back door which people constantly left open, making it very cold, and we were constantly shutting it. We should really have moved, but now know not to sit there again. Otherwise very attractive surroundings with lovely outdoor area for warmer days.

Very easy to book this restaurant. Arrive was 2.30pm so a later lunch. The bar staff pointed to a table in the restaurant for where we could sit and when we got seated we were not given menus until I got up and asked for them. I think they were short staffed. The Camembert starter was very enjoyable and ideal for 3 to share. I had the southern fried chicken and my sister had the vegetarian burger. Both very nice. We just wish the coffee had been better. The cappuccino was dreadful with foam that looked like it had been washed up at the beach. Otherwise the service as a whole was good as out waitress was lovely.

Sadly we did not get there and all my house viewings came to nothing too!! My apologies for having to cancel.

We have eaten here regularly but on this occasion the offer was poor.
Many items were unavailable both food and certain wines. The floor was sticky where drinks had been spilt. My wifes chicken dish was undercooked as pink inside although she was offered a free desert by the staff.Staff tried hard but someone had underordered items for the new summer menu which in any case was fairly sparse before the unavailable items.
It has been better hopefully this was just a one off.

Lovely meal, beautiful sea views, friendly staff. A most enjoyable Sunday lunch. An experience to be repeated.

Had to wait for quite a while to be shown to our seats made worse by not enough seats in the bar area to sit on. Food was very good although starter Lobster, prawn & advacado on the s all side, two tiny slices of advacado? Not good value.
    Staff polite and attentative.

A disappointing Easter lunch, very chilly in the restaurant, had to ask to be moved, was given a table by a radiator which helped, was told there was no roast lamb - on Easter Sunday really? And no custard-not that difficult to make or purchase. We all had roasts which were ok, not very hot and Yorkshire puddings dry, my son recommended here, he'd eaten there 2 weeks earlier and enjoyed it,but agreed this meal was"not as good"
