All 5 of us ordered a different meal and all very happy. The mini pud with coffee was very mini but tasty. Service very good, surroundings and decor cozy.

Combining a country setting with a sea view on the Telscombe Cliffs, The Smuggler’s Rest has a uniquely beautiful backdrop to enjoy the traditional British pub cuisine. This view and food can be savoured from the al fresco beer garden or by the log-fire in colder climes, and the pub features a more modern, bright appearance, letting in the plentiful seaside sun.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Smuggler’s Rest menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Smuggler’s Rest ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Situated in Peacehaven on the sea front, there is a minimal walk to the ocean, or it is a 11-minute drive to Brighton.

THINK SERVICE COULD BE AT THE LEAST 75% BETTER NO CUTLERY ON TABLE ASKED BUT NEVER CAME STARTERS NOT OVER WARM AND THEY NEVER CLEARED THE DISHES TILL THEY BOUGHT THE MAIN COURSE. WHICH WAS AGAIN LUKEWARM AND NOT PRESENTED WELL IE I HAD STEAK WAS GARNISHED WITH 2 RED LEAVES AND NO OTHER SALAD , FRIENDS FISH CHIPS ALMOST GHOST LIKE AS NOT YELLOW AND CRISPY.
OTHERS ALL HAD FAULTS CHICKEN PIE PASTRY NOT COOKED THROUGH ALL SOGGY.
Hunters chicken looked as others did thrown on plate

The food was excellent and staff very pleasant and helpful

Very poor service, old wine menus about so we picked a wine and when paid was more expensive, we were told old menu and now new prices, no apology jet took menu with old prices on away. When ordering we were told they had no salad and only one pate, when food did arrive was Luke warm and the steak was tough and inedible. They did take off price but hence one of our party did not eat. We are a group who meet every month for a meal, drink, we have been here before and service and food not great then but because of lovely place and setting keep giving them the benefit, but no more, we will not be returning again, shame as could be so nice

I live quite near the smugglers rest and have dined there on numerous occasions. Service was excellent but food a long time arriving. Not the waitresses fault but do feel that it seemed a little understaffed

The restaurant was very busy, but we were attended to promptly and politely.
The waiting staff were attentive and advised my mother to the size of the childs Sunday Roast meal, as she has a small appetite. This helped tremendously as we all hate to waste food these days.
The meals were superb and nicely presented on the plates.

*Would be nice if you could offer a small eating adult a wider range of food instead of having to order off the child's menu as it is very limiting and not always to their taste.
This is something we have to do during week days*.

Would appreciate some feed back about the above comment **

Lovely restaurant!! However we won't be visiting again, the food presentation was very poor, food way overpriced, the area we were seated (although had a fire) was very cold, (we were in a bay, away from the fire) the food was also cold , chips overcooked, and to top it all my neice had her jeans pulled from staples sticking out of the chair!! Although we were given our meals f.o.c. as compensation for the damaged jeans, I feel we should have also been reimbursed for the cost of the jeans for liability as well as the meal f.o.c. as a goodwill for the uneddible food!! Although offered to be replaced it should never have been served that way in the first place....we visited on recommendation and I booked this for my Husbands birthday but to be honest I wish I'd have stuck to what I know the lovely Brighton Marina with endless top quality restaurants with a better dining experience and view other of that of a dirty shore line and horizon...we travelled 90miles to be very very disappointed :( NOT HAPPY!!!!
