Excellent Lunch. Good range of interesting Draught Beer beforehand. Very helpful staff who confirmed that I could order the Scotch Eggs even though they were not on the actual menu. Really good steaks cooked as I like tem. A very good and enjoyable experience overall

A comfy, eclectic gastropub close to Twickenham Stadium, The Shaftesbury is filled with plush seating and quirky design touches. There is a tranquil heated garden out back, a full menu of gourmet international flavours, and live events ranging from quiz nights to cocktail classes.

The Shaftesbury menu is packed with inventive variations of British pub classics. To start, there are venison Scotch eggs and wild boar sausage rolls, and from the grill there are prime cuts of Aberdeen Angus, as well as Dorset lamb leg steak. Fresh seafood includes grilled sea trout with pan-fried peppers, fine beans and courgette with caper butter, as well as vegetarian delicacies like roast vegetable ragu with cous cous.

Sumptuous desserts at The Shaftesbury Richmond include Bakewell tart with clotted cream, and a selection of tangy sorbets. On tap there are Young's ales, and there is a selection of craft beers from across the globe, as well as premium spirits, including gin made in Hammersmith.

An ideal stop for rugby fans after a match, The Shaftesbury London has a warm, buzzing ambience, and sits 6 minutes' walk from Richmond Tube Station.

It's a lovely traditional pub which has a reputation for great steaks but our family experience was not great. We visited on Fathers Day and was seated by the open kitchen. Having ordered our meals it took a disproportionate amount of time until they arrived at our table and to top it my fathers meal was wrong and had to go back to be corrected. Having sat by the kitchen we also viewed our meals being put up one by one under the heat lights and sitting there. The burger must have been under the lights for at least 10 minutes ahead of the other dishes.
The food prep was also on display and food was handled by one team member without gloves, touching cloths and handling food. The service was slow and lacked any enthusiasm to add to a day of celebration.
To cap it being within earshot of a member of staff swearing at somebody in the kitchen with 2 children at the table was not a good experience.

Booking was super easy. First time at the Shaftesbury, we were running late because we weren't familiar with Richmond, called them and bloke I spoke to was lovely. Got there and they'd reserved a gorgeous floor to ceiling window area (I had requested window table) leading to the canopied garden area, really pretty pub, hubby then decided he wanted to sit in the garden, again they were really cool about it all. I had the trio roast, hubby had the beef, I was looking forward to the Bakewell tart, but they had lemon tart, which was yummy. We love the Sunday roast at Paradise (Kensal Rise) and Truscott Arms (Maidavale) is also good, but Shaftesbury's roasts were just beautiful, generous too! (which trumps Paradise) Great quality meats and ingredients, cooked really well, flavourful food that you just know was cooked with lots of love. Also lovely staff and vibe. Richmond is a hike for us (living around Notting-hill/Maidavale area) but we'll certainly be coming back to the Shaftesbury!

I went there on a quiet evening but speed of service, attentive service and quality of food were excellent, as always. Experienced staff are always friendly and helpful. Excellent chefs create very well cooked food on a fairly limited menu. Steaks are the main speciality and these are consistently cooked to perfection. However there is always a variety of other dished available and these are well presented and imaginative. Side dishes are both substantial and superbly cooked and I know from past experience that the chef is flexible with the menu to be able to cope with special dietary requirements (a vegetarian with an allergy to dairy)..
My party of three thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We all had starters and main courses and have large appetites but none of us could manage a desert .
I live around 90 miles away from this restaurant and have eaten all over Europe and UK but this is one of my favourite restaurants and have visited It at least six times in the past four years with different friends and family. Every meal has been regarded as very good or excellent and is always substantial .
Not cheap (steaks are charged per 100 grammes) but it is difficult to fault the quality or quantity and the service is always good even when the place is full with people having meals as well as those wanting drinks only.
It is excellent value for money and put simplyin my opinion you get what you have paid for. (in our case £40 per head for a very enjoyable and substantial meal)

Place and décor excellent, service by all was 100%, dinner served quickly and looked lovely, unfortunately the 21 day old was full of grizzle and very chewy, that was a disappointment, but veg and roast potatoes were lovely......would go again as sure it was a the cut of meat...

The 'tidy' Eton Mess was an absolute treat! Dinner followed by the gin tasting we had booked there made for a really good evening overall. Delicious food, good company and a fun end with gin.
