The place was easy to find and well located with ample parking. There were a lot of tables but also plenty of room to move between them. The table was clean and well presented. Some of the menus looked a bit tatty but the choice of dishes in them was really large. We easily found something to suit all our tastes and dietary needs. The wait for food was acceptable. Some of the dishes were a little underwhelming - overcooked burger, vegetarian lasagne without any distinguishable vegetables - that said, the portions were generous and it's nice that you can swap chips for extra salad etc. Indoor play area for the under 5s is a bonus and I know mid-December is not peak time but it would have been nice to have an outdoor play area which was free from rubbish. High praise for the staff, who were friendly, helpful, and polite. This was our first time eating at The Saxon Penny and it was suitable as a venue for a child's birthday but I wouldn't go there on date night!

I booked a table for 6 for Saturday lunch. We all ordered pizza. The service was quick and the young staff were efficient and helpful. The food was good and 2 for 1 prices. I asked for a box to take home half my pizza. It was no problem. I would go there again. Recommended.

The service was very slow. My friend asked for a medium steak and it's was over cooked. We waited ages for waitress to come over to complain, also my other friend ask for a second glass of water and again she waited 30 mins so in the end I got up to ask . My plate was over filled with chips, terrible waste as I left most of it. Complete spoilt my eveming with my friends. Never again.

We had a lovely meal here last night. Service on the drinks was a bit slow but the food was freshly cooked and really nicely presented. Prices are very reasonable, we all had 'two for one' offer. Generous portions which surprised me!i
