With 2 AA Rosettes to its name, The Samuel Fox Country Inn serves modern interpretations of British classics. Having worked under several Michelin-starred chefs, head chef James Duckett has brought his creative cooking to this homely country pub.
The Samuel Fox menu is packed with flavoursome dishes that are exquisitely presented and crafted using fresh, local ingredients. Expect rich flavour combinations like pan-fried duck breast with celeriac, hazelnut and pickled red cabbage, hake with clam casserole, or pot roast guinea fowl with autumn vegetables, sage and cider. Desserts are inspired by pub favourites and include sticky toffee pudding with stout ice cream, and white chocolate custard with passion fruit.
An excellent wine menu complements the food at the Samuel Fox, many available by the glass whilst locally brewed real ales are also available. The linked bar and restaurant areas provide a warm and comfortable atmosphere, with large windows offering views over the stunning Peak District countryside.
The Samuel Fox near Bradwell is situated in the picturesque Hope Valley, at the heart of the Peak District National Park yet just 15 miles from the centre of Sheffield.

Visited for Sunday lunch 12 Feb - our first time eating here and we were very impressed. Between three of us we had roast pheasant, beef blade, and bangers and mash followed by sticky toffee pudding and chocolate parfait. The food was really great, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Very good value indeed.
Not quite so keen on the decor which has a bit of a mid 20th century B and B dining room feel, although obviously very recently decorated - so perhaps it is a deliberate choice! In any case it certainly wouldn't stop us visiting again- we'll be back!.
Choice of beers slightly limited, apparently due to previous night's rush.

We had the 7 course tasting menu which was outstanding and easily Michelin star standard. The ambience was welcoming and comfortable, the service was spot on. Overall an excellent experience and a real find for us as it is 5 minutes down the road! So, we shall definitely be visiting again.

Friendly staff. Excellent food, especially the bread and our starter of treacle-cured trout.

Sunday lunch in early December for my cousin's birthday. Within walking distance of our home. Attentive greeting & initial service. However..... I ordered a bottle of no 35 (Italian Merlot). First of all, no wine appeared & I had to ask; secondly, a glass of wine was brought; thirdly a bottle of Chilean Merlot (way more expensive!) was delivered; finally we got the wine I had ordered! All a bit annoying. One other criticism - the staff failed to point out the "Specials" on the board so we chose from the (rather limited) printed set menu. I would have ordered the duck main course had I known it was an option! Having said all that, the cosy, relaxed & slightly sophisticated atmosphere was perfect for my cousin's birthday treat, the staff were friendly & welcoming and the food outstanding! The decor was contemporary, fresh & clean and the tables well spaced. Thank you for a pleasant experience. We will return!
