Evening meal out with friends. Excellent steak and chips. The steak was perfectly cooked and very soft. There was a good range of real ales. We had an enjoyable evening.

Set within a rural Reading cottage dating back to 1720, The Rowbarge is a traditional British pub and restaurant from award-winning pub group, Brunning and Price. A large barn extension houses a summer barbecue station, which looks out onto the expansive and picturesque Rowbarge garden.

Modern international food from The Rowbarge menu offsets the pub’s vintage settings. Teriyaki king prawns with Asian slaw keep company with a maple-glazed ham hock salad with black pudding and apple fritters, while a majestic 24oz côte de boeuf is designed for 2 to share, and is served with juicy roasted cherry tomatoes, flat mushrooms, chips and béarnaise sauce.

There’s a children’s menu with a selection of trusty British favourites at The Rowbarge in Reading, while the wine list is an eclectic selection of picks from the world’s favourite wine regions. Rustic picnic tables and canopied umbrellas fill the garden, while the interior is characterised by low-beamed ceilings and a chunky wooden bar.

The Rowbarge is next to the River Kennet, a 2-minute walk from Midgham Station.
