The food was beautiful, however the little pastries would have been nice to have one each rather than cut in half ... That's being super picky though. The harpist was stunning. So relaxing and such beautiful music. Thank you for a lovely afternoon :)

Amid the splendour of the 5-star Sofitel London St James Hotel, The Rose Lounge shares the hotel’s blend of English tradition and classic French style. This Grade II listed former city bank provides the opulent backdrop for a rose-tinted Afternoon Tea experience in soothing surroundings.

Plump, plush sofas in warm pink denote The Rose Lounge’s unmistakable feminine style, while the French influence is apparent in the delicate tapestries lining the room. A fine range of teas pour from fine china pots, complementing delightful Parisienne pastries.

Tempting cakes and dainty cut sandwiches hallmark the suitably elegant Rose Lounge menu. Fresh fragrant roses and the subtle strains of a harp among its sensory signatures, The Rose Lounge in London offers an intimate atmosphere to enjoy this most civilised of British traditions.

Afternoon Tea at The Rose Lounge oozes the sophistication of one of the capital’s most prestigious addresses. A short stroll from Trafalgar Square and Bond Street, The Rose Lounge at Sofitel London St James is a 2-minute walk from Piccadilly Circus Tube Station.

Such a huge disappointment. The sandwiches were dry, scones were cold and hard and the service very poor.

The service was very average and very slow. The waiter was polite and courteous but he was alone for the whole room and couldn't cope with the workload, therefore, customer service and 5* service (attention to details) was severely lacking.

Disappointing visit. No-one to greet us on arrival, despite the fact that we had booked and they were aware of our arrival time. Some of the bread on the sandwiches was dry and all of my (non meat and fish) sandwiches were on plain white bread, rather than the delicious flavoured bread usually on offer. Also, no fresh tea was offered, but rather hot water to add to existing leaves, which just isn't the same. On the plus side, the waitress was friendly and the champagne cocktail, scones and desserts were lovely.

This was a beautiful cute room to have afternoon tea, with live music and a good selection of sandwiches and scones. We went for the champagne afternoon tea, and enjoy our glass of bubbly.
The selection of tea's was lovely too. ( please note this is not a big room- it is cosy and homely)

The location of the hotel, is a short walk from Piccadilly circus.

What impressed me the most, was the attentiveness of the waiters. Service was beyond expected, and they overheard my friends wishing me a happy birthday and took their own initiative to bring a small birthday cake. Attention to detail was suburb and made the whole experience very enjoyable.

This was out first experience at the Rose lounge, the room was set out beautiful the food and service were very good and a harpist was playing adding to a wonderful afternoon tea experience. Unfortunately we asked to move tables as a large birthday party had arranged for a nail bar and we were overwhelmed with fumes of nail varnish. Due consideration of other people eating had not been taken and did spoil it for us somewhat.

This was my fifth visit to the Rose Lounge for a birthday afternoon tea for two. Quality was previously demonstrated by my return visits. This experience (30-09-2016) wasn't very good and this will be my last visit. Sandwiches for two (one small portion per person), salmon sandwich (not smoked salmon), goats cheese (mini one bite brioche roll), egg mayo & coronation chicken sandwiches. Bread was dry & sandwiches stained with fluid leaked from coronation chicken liquor. Then, six mini scones (plain, raisin & chocolate). Two of the scones weren't fully cooked with raw dough in the centre.

On previous visits the waiting team would then offer a selection of cakes from a serving plate, talking you through the selection of cakes available. Yesterday we were given no choice, four small cakes (passion fruit mousse slice, tiny lemon meringue two bite tart, apricot & almond square, chocolate and coffee sponge slice) were placed on a separate tea plate and balanced on the edge of the table. Previously there was a much wider selection of cakes i.e. Beautiful meringues / small mousses in glasses etc. The pictures on the website are more akin to the previous experience....and do not reflect the current afternoon tea. £35 per person with signature cocktail (cocktail lovely). Waiting staff attentive and very polite. Harpist wonderful. The beautifully decorated Rose lounge has been replaced with photo exhibition and temporary panels to cover walls. Very disappointed and not a brilliant birthday experience on this occasion.

We asked for sandwiches with no beef and got only vegetarian sandwiches. Tap water had to be requested a couple of times. Had to ask for hot water for tea several times. Flies constantly swanning around the food. Service charge 12.5% automatically added. Would not return, much better afternoon tea experiences in London for similar price

Absolutely loved our Afternoon Tea at the Sofitel Rose Lounge. The decor was gorgeous, classy and the sound of the harp was the ultimate touch. Moreover the food was delicious, in love with the chocolate chip scones and the selection was more than enough and varied! Would definitely recommend the experience !
