Previously an 18th-century coaching inn, The Rose & Crown in Dunton Green offers great British pub cuisine on the landmark North Downs. With an appealing whitewashed exterior and classic wood features, but tasteful, blue mood lighting and sleek furniture, The Rose & Crown features the best of old and new. You can enjoy the food next to the cosy hearth-fire or in the pretty beer garden.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Rose & Crown menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Rose & Crown ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

At just a 13-minute walk into central Dunton Green or 6 minutes’ driving to Sevenoaks, The Rose & Crown is a welcoming country retreat.

I was slightly disappointed with the menu this time. There used to be a very good fish pie which has been withdrawn and there seemed to be a lot of "pies" which I didn't want. I ended up with the scampi (though there were fish specials) which was OK but I just felt there was a difference in the restaurant - maybe because we don't usually eat there on a Saturday but midweek.

Three of us dined at the Royal Oak on Saturday night and had a very pleasant evening. We were looked after by friendly and efficient Amy. Our drinks order was taken straight away and arrived quickly. Our meal was hot and delicious and, in spite of the restaurant being quite busy, came to our table without delay. The staff we spoke to seemed happy to be there, which makes for a very pleasant atmosphere. Even though the restaurant looked almost fully booked it didn't feel crowded or noisy. Altogether a very pleasant venue and excellent food.

My family and I would say this pub is a 3 out 5 experience. We reserved a table for Sunday lunch at 2.45pm and ended up being served food well after 3.30pm as the place was packed and the kitchen couldn't keep up. And by the looks of it neither could the waiting staff! They were very pleasant and helpful though and when the food did arrive it was worth the wait. So if you have patience then the Rose and Crown is worth a visit.
