Serving exquisitely presented, modern British food in a family-friendly setting, The RiverHill Restaurant is an independent local favourite. Afternoon tea and Sunday Lunch are very popular, and an elegant menu is served at lunch and dinner.

The RiverHill menu favours scallops with the option to have them with minted pea puree with black pudding croquettes or in garlic butter with ciabatta. Other popular starters include the classic asparagus and Parma ham with a poached egg and Parmesan.

Dover sole with French fries, prawns, shrimp and lemon butter is a popular main course, as are the selection of steaks. For pudding, guests are invited to choose from the selection of sweet treats on the trolley, or opt for the cheese board.

The seasonally-changing menu is accompanied by a substantial wine list to complement every dish. Birkenhead Central Train Station is a half-hour walk or a 9-minute drive from The RiverHill in Wirral, and the bright lights of Liverpool are also close by.

WE were very pleased with the service and the ambience of the River Hill. The food was excellent and also the waiter service. We will be eating at the Riverhill again in the not too distant future

We all had a lovely evening, staff so friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and we all enjoyed our choices from the menu. Will certainly be dining here again.

This was our first visit as we were looking for somewhere new and a little bit special as al birthday treat and we were not disappointed. Service in particular was spot on - all staff were friendly and welcoming and interested in you as a person. Meals were served promptly and portions were just the right size while the desserts were 'to die for' - especially the meringue! We shall definitely be returning in the not too distant future.

We've dined at the Riverhill on many occasions over the 30 years and see it as somewhere to celebrate a special occasion. We were very disappointed with this visit. We found the service poor. 7 of us sat down to our starters, but only 6 arrived. There was a 5 minute difference in the last one arriving by which all but one (the child) had finished.
The comment that we we were all in agreement on with regards to the 'roasts' was that the meat was sub standard. Whether it was the beef or the lamb, the meat was 'machined sliced', rather than carved, and was extremely thin! Really not what we expect when you are paying £20 per head. The roast potatoes were a mixture of cold and hot, obviously cooked at separate times and / or reused.
There was insufficient roast potatoes, and vegetables and had to ask for more. The Yorkshire puddings were over-cooked and burnt.
Everything went cold rather quickly as the plates were not hot when brought to the table.
The deserts were ok, however it would have helped if the waiter had known what they were.
Two asked for applie pie and custard and like the starters it arrived after 5 of us had finished what we had requested from the trolley. We asked and therefore expected the pie to be hot, unfortunately it wasn't. I, for the first time did not finish the pie, as I found it extremely heavy, and lacked flavour.
We dined at 2pm, and it seemed that everything was an effort, maybe it was the last sitting?!?
Several of us have dined with you in the evening and it's like a different restaurant. Why the difference?
Two of our group had travelled from Worcester and it was there first visit, and we had described it as a something special in terms of ambiance and quality. They were open and honest in there feedback and stated that they would not recommend the restaurant, and described it a 'run of the mill restaurant' that's was grossly overpriced for the quality received.
    Bitterly disappointed and somewhat embarrassed.

Traditional values rule the day with attentive service and even a sweet trolley! Food is well done if possibly a bit safe but the number of diners in attendance on a midweek evening testifies to a loyal following.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday Lunch. The staff were friendly and efficient, and looked after us well in spite of a short delay caused by some latecomers to a rather large party.(not our party)
The food was served quickly with a suitable break between courses, my only suggestion being that perhaps our mint sauce could have been served in a separate sauceboat and not directly on the plate.
    We shall certainly visit again
