I had the Bream, it was cooked to perfections, I even asked if I could sway the menu around a little and have some samphire, this was no problem and the waitress and chef were very obliging. I was with a party of four, everyone was very pleased with their food. The deserts were divine.

Shabby chic is OK if it goes with a little style and elegance. Not present at Charlton House. Some of the staff need training in the art of acknowledging the presence of waiting customers when they are engaged on the phone or washing the last used glasses!! The food was fine, the staff at service friendly.

The menu is really nice with varied types of food. We ate two nights and overall it was dry good but we had steaks on the second night and they let the hotel down. Both had tough grizzle through, only warm and were not cooked to what we wanted. Rare was more medium to rare and medium rare was medium to well done. The sauces were not good at all and I believe we're incorrectly made. I did question the sauces and was told they were correct ?? The service was a little abrupt and some of the male staff thought to highly of themselves. That all said we still enjoyed our stay.

The ambience of the restaurant area was pleasant.Staff were welcoming.Food was satisfactory.
Service left a little to be desired considering only 3 tables were occupied during our time of service.
We were told after ordering that there would be some bread arriving with our drinks.I had to remind them of this when it didn't arrive.
Drinks weren't replenished ( water) or further enquiries as to whether we wanted more drinks.
There was a big confusion with our bill due to mistake with keying in total. This was pointed out to us in reception as we were leaving( which caused some embarrassment !
I think some staff re- training is required.

The food was amazing, it's a shame that the service didn't match.
We had to ask for drinks menus, then ask to order a drink.
They forgot our side of veg and I had to ask for it, there was then no check back at all. We ordered coffee and was bought the bill at the same time without asking for it making us feel like we were being pushed out. When I asked if it was OK to order dessert the restaurant manager was quite abrupt and told me a waitress would be with me soon. It's just a shame they were not very attentive as the food looked and tasted amazing.

The service, food and wine were all excellent and we had a very enjoyable evening with our son and his partner. We went for the Taster Menu and the scallops were just perfect. The venison was also delicious and beautifully presented, however just a few extra vegetables would have been welcome. Would definitely go again.

We had an excellent set lunch in a beautiful setting overlooking the garden. The menu was limited but we all felt that we could have enjoyed every single item. The service was attentive but we never felt hassled. At £15 for 2 courses or £22 for 3 courses, this is a really good deal and I can recommend the Charlton House lunches wholeheartedly. Thank you for a very happy occasion.
