On the edge of the protected Sherradspark Wood and within reach of Welwyn Garden City centre, The Red Lion – Welwyn is a homey gastro pub. Though spacious, its fireplaces, cushioned wicker chairs, exposed brick wall accents and soft armchairs, give it the air of a cosy country-style pub.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Red Lion - Welwyn menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest seasonal ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include Mediterranean mezze, seared chicken breast with sweet potato rosti & buttered British beans, and spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar at The Red Lion - Welwyn restaurant showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at the bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The Red Lion - Welwyn in Hertfordshire is a 7-minute drive from Welwyn Garden City Railway Station.

A friendly and attractive pub/restaurant, good service and atmosphere. A slightly more upmarket restaurant with an interesting menu. For me I felt the food did not deliver on taste so was not value for money with it being a little pricier than the average pub/restaurant. However, would try it again but maybe if there was a promotion and try something different as it could of just been the dish I had.

It took ages to get a drink which was only served on 2nd request. We waited along time for food. We were asked would we like to see the desert menu and replied yes but it never appeared Gave up in the end. When we complained the manageress did sort something out. She is working her socks off with very young inexperienced staff and she is drowning. The food was average so won't be rushing back

Excellent evening. Very good service, polite and friendly. Food was first class and well presented

Have eaten here before and enjoyed it but not this time. There was obviously a serious understaffing problem so service was slow and harassed. The food was mediocre and the scallops starter overpriced (3 small scallops for £10) and inedible because overcooked and unappealing on the plate. The Wagyu burger was also overcooked. It was very overcrowded with people arriving all the time for bar meals so I think the kitchen was overburdened but I felt there was a lack of good management. This was after all probably the busiest time of the year and should have been better planned for.

Although the restaurant was busy, the staff were very good. The Christmas Lunch was excellent.
