It's a great stop off for a bite to eat. A good choice on the menu which satisfied my guests. Would definitely recommend it and I will return.

Situated on the pretty Calder Park, home to much wildlife, The Red Kite serves traditional British pub cuisine in a beautiful building. With patterned red-bricks and red slate, The Red Kite cuts an impressive sight in the Yorkshire countryside, viewable from the al fresco garden for outdoor dining. Inside, candles, a warm hearth and cosy low ceilings create a comfortable and homely atmosphere.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Red Kite menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Red Kite ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Also near Pugney’s Country Park, The Red Kite is only 7 minutes’ drive from Wakefield.

Very friendly staff. No quibble about ordering a child's portion of the cavery in fact they offered it me. Still couldn't eat it all. Would eat here again

We have eaten here a few times in the past and had a good meal, my wife's chicken pie was a good portion but my fish & chips were a little on the small side and we just had the basic menu to choose from, no special dishes, so the choice was quite limiting! However the service and staff were very good.

The waitress with the coooured hair is amazing. She is the reason we keep going back.

Very much improved service since last visit. Vintage Inns have upped their game. Seems staff training is a priority over squeezing their labour budget. Food is ever so slightly above average 'grill' fodder. Still, we enjoyed it very much. Good commitment to local real ale breweries too.

Good friendly atmosphere well worth the visit.

This wouldn't have been my choice for food and perhaps I had a premonition. The warm bread was nice but let's face it - it's bread, it's not difficult. Clearly fish and chips was too much of a stretch as they were awful - thick, undercooked and not nice tasting batter. Unsurprisingly I passed on a dessert although two of the party had one and they appeared standard bought in ones. We agreed we would not return. Given the poor quality food you would expect that to be reflected in the price but it isn't.

A warm welcome from Karen, the manager, and very good service from James, our server. He has a friendly and caring manner. He was careful to check that all was alright at several points in our meal. Good to see roast loin of pork and sticky duck salad back on the menu!
