Taking its name from an old local rhyme, The Red Cow near Leicester has been refreshing its guests since the 17th century. It offers well-loved British pub cuisine which can be enjoyed from the pretty beer garden in summer or by the hearth in winter. Furnished with rustic oak beams and eclectic trinkets, The Red Cow is a peaceful country retreat.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Red Cow menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Red Cow ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Red Cow resides in the countryside just outside of Leicester, 5 minutes’ drive away.

Average, food was acceptable. Maybe better when less busy. Staff were courteous.

Having eaten at this restaurant several times previously, I felt very disappointed on this occasion. It was a Saturday evening in early December but the restaurant was very quiet with only a few tables occupied. We were presented with the Festive Menu together with the usual menu to select from, but five minutes later the Festive Menu was taken from us and we were told that this was no longer available (disappointing as we were a there for a Christmas gathering with friends). We had to wait for over half an hour for the menu choices to be taken and service was extremely slow throughout the evening with a longer than average wait between courses ie 45 minutes.
We all felt that the food was not up to its usual high standard. I ordered the Hunters Chicken and asked if I could substitute the chips for sweet potato chips. The waitress was very quick to inform me that I would have to pay extra for that, so I agreed to the extra expense. When the meal arrived there were very few sweet potato chips, a piece of chicken and bacon, together with three tomatoes. I asked if there would be vegetables to accompany the meal and again I was speedily informed that I would 'have to pay extra for that'. Again I agreed to the extra expense and when they arrived some ten minutes later in a small pot I received three new potatoes, two slices of carrot and a few garden peas. Very disappointing.
At the end of the evening we were given the bill before we were ready to leave, and it became very evident that the waiting staff were waiting to reset the tables for the following day. We felt rushed in making payment and in the end I forgot to use my £10 discount voucher I had received previously by e-mail that I had presented at the start of the evening only to be told to show it again at the end of the meal which I subsequently forgot.
It's a shame that a meal we were looking forward to was not up to its usual high standard on this occasion.

I had a steak which has exceptionally good. Mywife had the chicken pie which use to be her favourite but the recipe has definitely changed and was not very good, reconstituted chicken. Service very good, particularly Gemma.

We arrived 10 minutes late on arrival our table wasn't ready and had to be cleared from previous dinners eventually 20 mins later we were shown to our table.
After seating we found the service to be very good by the lady waiting our table. She was very warm and friendly and the food was delish.
Over all a very pleasent experience many thanks
