About 200 years old, built on the old Grand National Steeplechase Course, The Punchbowl in Merseyside is traditional country pub, offering well-loved British cuisine in an eye-catching setting. Views of the patterned, red-brick exterior and ancient, imperious Sefton Parish Church can be enjoyed from the al fresco beer garden. The ornate hearth-fire also warms interior dining in winter.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Punchbowl menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Punchbowl ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Punchbowl in Lunt is just 6 minutes’ drive from Maghull, or 20 minutes into Liverpool.

Good poor quality. Triple cooked chips were just oven chips. Few chips literally thrown on plate with ham & an egg. Sweet potato chips were burnt. Just overall disappointed with quality of food

Been here a few times before and since relocating over this way (Aintree) from a more rural location this is one of only a handful of places that have the same feeling of the countryside. My wife loved my old haunts hence the Punchbowl has become a firm favourite of our, what with the lovely setting and the roaring log fire!!!!!!!!!!! Oh hang on. Arriving with snow flurries in the air it was a shame that we were placed in "the back room" which was not really a bad point, it would of been lovely if the fire had been roaring away, instead it was a tad chilly!! The food and service was very good as usual, no complains there, just why no warmth, disappointing but will return....in summer

As a vegetarian it was nice to have a choice where both options were good but always only two choices . However it was a relief not to be offered veggie lasagne !

Really impressed with the decor and seating areas. My friends always go for the fish & chips, definitely a must on a Friday, they are convinced it is the best !!!! I am celiac so have a limited choice on the menu, but can usually find something to suit. My only complaint on the food is that you have started using frozen chips which I find disappointing as they are not as delicious as the home made from fresh potatoes that you used to serve. I must praise all the staff in the restaurant and bar area ESPECIALLY Rachel she is always very pleasant and courteous, an excellent waitress.
