A beautiful Grade II listed building, The Plymouth Arms near Cardiff has great views from its beer garden over the surrounding countryside, and to the imperious St Fagan’s Castle. Offering traditional British pub cuisine, the pub’s ornate stone walls and window frames are sure to impress. Interiorly, there is a duality of contemporary and classic, with a brick hearth and chunky oak beams, but also sleek and colourful furniture.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Plymouth Arms menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Plymouth Arms ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

At just 12 minutes’ driving into central Cardiff, The Plymouth Arms is a stunning country pub but close to the city.

The serving staff were not clearing plates before bringing the next course. Nothwithstanding this the staff were very helpful in taking our order. The prawn and lobster starter was clearly made from frozen stock and the sauce bland.

I went for a late Sunday lunch with a group of friends. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside in the garden. We had a mixture of main courses including ham hock, sea bass & fillet steak. Every meal was great! All cooked & presented to a high standard. Staff were very friendly. As there were eight of us it would have been nice if we could have had waitress service but appreciate this might be difficult when we were dining outside.

A very tasty roast dinner enjoyed by all four of us. A very friendly waitress who looked after us very well. Would visit again on a Sunday, particularly as not many restaurants serve Roasts in the evening.

Service was very slow. Fish was tough and chewy. The pizza still had a small piece of plastic wrapper on the underside of it

Disappointed that there was no Roast dinners available as that was reason we booked.
Service poor, had to call someone over to take order
Chicken pie offered as an alternative had very little substance to it. My daughter did enjoy the sausages
no crayons offered with the kids menu

I visit the Plymouth Arms several times a year, and the food, service and value for money has always been very good. I am very happy to recommend it to anyone.
