Found nestled in the quaint village of Coton, 3 miles from Cambridge, The Plough seamlessly balances pub food and fine dining. The Plough in Coton is a charming cornerstone of the community offering summertime al fresco dining and a popular Sunday roast.

Warm haggis with roquette and tarragon, fresh apple and mustard sauce is a favourite starter, and there are regularly-changing specials for something one-off. Main courses at The Plough near Cambridge include pub favourites such as fish and chips, along with inventive options like fennel, cucumber and hazelnut salad with brioche croutons.

The desserts on The Plough menu comprise classic favourites, such as apple crumble with custard, and crème brulee with boozy prunes. A selection of light bites, including casual options such as pizza and sandwiches, is also available.

This historic building offsets original low ceilings and gnarled beams with contemporary embellishments. The Plough in Fen Ditton is full of character and a 15-minute drive from Cambridge.

Table booked online easily, nice venue, friendly staff. Only problem was burger was raw in middle. Waiter assured that it was fine and was meant to be served pink but this was very underdone. I should have taken him up on offer to cook a bit longer but as did not have a lot of time I ate it as it was and unfortunately paid the penalty later!

    1st class on every way!

We were recommended the restaurant and whilst the starters were good, we had to wait nearly 1 hour between the starters being cleared and the main courses arriving, and that was after asking where they were. What we got looked rushed, particularly the steak, which was a pity as the menu looked good and we had high hopes.

Lunch for three friends was excellent on a sunny day when many customers were also enjoying al fresco lunches outside this lovely restaurant. A mixture of dishes from the main menu, lunch menu and daily specials from the board were all deliciously excellent. Service and ambience were delightful as ever.

The welcome was warm, the set tables looked inviting, the staff mostly attentive. The restaurant was very busy. The food was somewhat disappointing. The 'special' main dish that 3 of us ordered was ok but the portions too large and a bit 'stodgy'. It would have been good to have a lighter alternative to the large portion of potatoes. The gammon, egg and chips was good. The starters were carefully presented and mostly tasty, apart from the beetroot soup, which I didn't enjoy. Owing to the large portions of the main course, we were unable to eat dessert. The paper menus looked a little 'tatty'.

When a friend and I entered it was quiet. We were seated by a friendly waitress. The bowl of chunky chips we ordered was ridiculously small for the price. The Greek salad was an excellent size. The Caesar salad was too small since its mostly just lettuce. My cranberry juice tasted like sweeteners which was not nice.

Great service, especially from Ed. Quick service, good food, nice inside and in the garden.

Easy going, relaxed atmosphere. Delicious food. Attentive, yet unobtrusive staff.
