My friend and I both chose to have one of the specials at lunchtime - hake with samphire and new potatoes - it was absolutely delicious and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were particularly friendly and welcoming.

Found nestled in the quaint village of Coton, 3 miles from Cambridge, The Plough seamlessly balances pub food and fine dining. The Plough in Coton is a charming cornerstone of the community offering summertime al fresco dining and a popular Sunday roast.

Warm haggis with roquette and tarragon, fresh apple and mustard sauce is a favourite starter, and there are regularly-changing specials for something one-off. Main courses at The Plough near Cambridge include pub favourites such as fish and chips, along with inventive options like fennel, cucumber and hazelnut salad with brioche croutons.

The desserts on The Plough menu comprise classic favourites, such as apple crumble with custard, and crème brulee with boozy prunes. A selection of light bites, including casual options such as pizza and sandwiches, is also available.

This historic building offsets original low ceilings and gnarled beams with contemporary embellishments. The Plough in Fen Ditton is full of character and a 15-minute drive from Cambridge.

The guy in charge seemed a little flustered as we entered. We had to wait a long time for our meal and we had to ask when our meals were coming. It was only at that point that we were told they were dealing with a wedding which is why the meals were taking longer to arrive. It would have been better if they had explained that on arrival and given us some bread or something by way of apology. The food was good when it came, fresh and well-cooked. The service was attentive and good-natured.

Excellent. This is not the first time that we have eaten there, but it is the second time that we have dined there under the new management and it will not be the last. The food is excellent as is the service.

Overall we were left disappointed. Our starters were good as was one of our main courses - baked whole Mackerel. However my wife and son both had sirloin steaks - one medium and one medium rare. Both were served undercooked and one was very tough. We were told one would be cooked a little more and the other replaced with a new steak however after 10 -15 minutes wait neither had appeared, by which time I had finished my fish. Eventually two new steaks appeared, better but again undercooked. By this time my wife had lost her appetite and left most of her meal. We were not charged for one of the steaks, however, the whole experience was very disappointing. We had a bottle of Rose with our meal which turned our to be rather bland too.
