A beautiful 18th-century listed building, The Pier offers diners spectacular views out across the harbour. The outdoor terrace is a great spot to dine while watching the sunset, and the menu is packed with fresh, seasonal produce, including local seafood delicacies.

Using carefully sourced ingredients, the Pier menu encompasses modern British dining and international creativity at its finest. Thanks to its seaside setting, tastes of the ocean are specialities, with Norfolk mussels and Harwich lobster being real crowd pleasers. Pan-fried hake is served with caponata and tapenade velouté, while classic recipes like beef bourguignon and thick cut lamb chops are served with a selection of gourmet sides.

A predominantly European wine list is complemented by inventive Prosecco-based cocktails, cask ales and craft beers. On the dessert menu at The Pier in Harwich, there are treats like amaretto cheesecake, chocolate delice and roasted pear pavlova.

A stunning setting for fresh tastes of the sea paired incredible vistas, The Pier sits only 9 minutes' walk from Harwich Town Rail Station.

The table provided was on the balcony, as requested, with views across the Orwell/Stour estuaries. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
As for the food, I had the special which was a lovely grilled wing of skate. Not the largest skate wing I have ever eaten but more than sufficient for a filling lunch and beautifully cooked and served.
One small issue was that the pint of Aspall cider I ordered looked a bit too dark to be Aspall and tasted as though the pipes had not been properly flushed through prior to pouring. However, it was exchanged with an apology and good grace so not really an issue.
I would certainly go back again.

Very pleasant atmosphere and an enjoyable meal experience. Being very picky a couple of suggestions - waiting staff shouldn't reach across to serve and clear and as the wine is sold by the label it would helpful if the staff knew more about the wines.

Delicious Roast Beef. Slightly more expensive than most comparable places. Some waiting issues but overall a pleasant experience.

We were a group of 5. The food was good quality but quite a bit overpriced. The meal took a long time to arrive and the service wasn't as good as expected especially as the restaurant wasn't full (we ate upstairs and no one appeared to be eating downstairs). It was also quite noisy despite not being busy. Waiting staff appeared quite ambivalent towards us. We won't be going back.
