With parts of this majestic site dating back 400 years, The Phoenix Ridgeway is a character-packed pub on the outskirts of Sheffield. The mock Tudor exterior reveals original beams and fireplaces, cosy snugs and an elevated hayloft.

Specialising in trusty, home-cooked British recipes, the Phoenix menu is made up of time-honoured classics and inventive chef’s specials. The signature beef & ale pie is a creation from much-loved celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, while favourite world flavours include sizzling steak fajitas, or aubergine and roast beetroot curry. Gourmet sandwiches and jacket potatoes are served throughout the day, and guests can round things off with an indulgent crumble, cheesecake or sundae.

The drinks list at the Phoenix pub features carefully-chosen beers and international wines, and a lengthy list of soft drinks. Younger diners are not forgotten, with a varied menu for both lunch and dinner, and a mini roast served on Sundays.

Brimming with history, The Phoenix pub sits 12 minutes’ drive from central Sheffield.

Very disappointing meals my steak was fine but the three other diners had the fish in puff pastry the vegetables were lukewarm despite being sent back to the kitchen to be reheated only potatoes were done the rest still the same must have been pretty bad has they didn't charge us for the three meals needless to say we will not be returning

After years of dining at the Phoenix under the old owners we will not be returning I'm afraid. We have been twice since new ownership and we are not impressed. We have on both occasions been served food which has the appearance and taste of a motorway cafe. Our last visit was with our family to celebrate the upcoming event of our first grandchild and the food and service was substandard. We ordered two sharing platters and was told there was no onion rings so we ordered extra chicken wings only then to be told there was no garlic bread "but the waitress knew what we could have instead", which turned out to be an undercooked garlic bread ring drizzled with balsamic dressing, which did nothing to improve the taste. The whole prawns were dry, the veg was dry, the packet puff pastry 'filled' (6 pieces) with seafood was scorched and all the meals were luke warm. When asked if we would like dessert and coffee we said yes only to be left by the waitress who never returned after 10-15 mins. The staff were inexperienced youngsters who couldn't cope with amount of people in the pub who need serving. We then left after paying the bill and without coffee and dessert. This is a shame as the Phoenix was a favourite pub of ours where we have had many celebrations over the years but we won't be returning unless things improve. I have recommended them many times to friends but not now.

Best restaurant feature for me is sitting near the windows looking out over the landscape, also the helpfulness of the staff, most are very cheerful, my favourite dish is the seafood puff pastry, every time i have it it never changes its always delicious I tell everyone to try it.

Lovely restaurant and very pleasant surroundings. Food is good and well prepared. We dine here often and it is always enjoyable, however we do always find the service a little slow.

Really nice place with lovely views plenty of car parking available.
The service was excellent , no waiting and we had a very happy waitress she was very bubbly
Food was hot and fresh it was really good.
The small bottles of prosecco are an excellent idea rather than just buying by the glass or a full big bottle
Prices reasonable 4 adults 2 courses each plus 2 drinks each just under £100
