A large but wonderfully cosy countryside pub, The Pheasant at Buckland is packed with tradition. There are inviting fires inside, a wonderful al fresco area looking out over the surrounding fields, and a great selection of cask ales and flavoursome international recipes served.

Inventive touches feature throughout The Pheasant at Buckland menu. To start, there is seared pigeon breast with pearl barley risotto and baby beetroot, while hearty mains include dishes like pork loin and confit belly with bubble and squeak, fennel croquette and pickled apple purée. There are also exciting international creations such as king prawn, chorizo and squid salad with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and gazpacho dressing. On Sundays there are popular roast dinners.

Sweet treats at The Pheasant at Buckland include black forest trifle with dark chocolate, cherries and kirsch, and a selection of sorbets in exotic flavours like pink grapefruit or apple and calvados. As well as a full wine list, a range of cask ales are also served up.

There is a good friendly atmosphere and no music, which is always good. The fish main courses two of us had were delicious but the steaks chosen by two others were very tough - inedible in fact, but staff apologised and offered free desserts which by all accounts were very good too.
I have been to The Pheasant a few times and always enjoyed it - maybe the fish dishes are the best choices.

Very good food and great service. Lovely atmosphere. Tables spread out so you feel you can have a conversation in private. Loved it. Only small let down was I asked for a J20 drink but was brought a replica make which wasn't as nice - wish they had told me it wouldn't be J20's own make before serving it.

Fast and pleasant service. Food very good though could have been warmer. Friendly waitress. Super light place to eat and gorgeous garden

Lovely Dining area with an attractive central open fire. Staff were friendly and the meal was delicious. Just the right portion sizes and an interesting menu without being too complex, old favourites and modern combinations on offer at reasonable prices. I recommend the scallops which were perfect.

Nice, quiet pub but we were disappointed with the food. Chicken salad looked very "white" and boring. Some nice flavour but it was at the bottom of the bowl not on the food. It needs to look more enticing. Burger was ok.
We used to eat at the Jolly Farmer every month. Afraid their standard was so high you need to improve to keep the clientele. Will not be returning for food but maybe drinks.

I took my sister there, and she was very impressed, sat next to the fire, but this was not kept alight, so that was dissapointing.

The decor is lovely and tables not too much on top of each other.

The service was good, but had to ask the waitress to come over a few times as waiting to long.

    The food was very good.
