Nice location. Interior good. No piped music. Varied menu a bit pricey, but you gets what you pay for. Good food. Service good. Paid just over £140 for 2 courses for 5 adults including a few drinks.

On the banks of the Grand Union Canal, The Paper Mill combines a restaurant and pub with an interior that reflects the heritage and historical significance of the venue. Enjoy a casual bite in the large patio and terrace or head to the restaurant for more intimate dining.

Fresh, seasonal ingredients underpin The Paper Mill menu with dishes like Discovery Beer battered squid, and pork and apple sausages with bubble and squeak and ‘The Yorkie’ Honeydew gravy. The Josper grill renders a succulent black bream, maple-glazed gammon steak, and market fish of the day.

The Paper Mill classics, like baskets of chicken goujons, London Pride battered cod, sausage roll and scampi are served with a handful of chips. Whisky lovers will be pleased with a choice of 15 whiskies on offer, and the drinks list also features fine wines and Fuller’s Master Cellarman and Cask Marque approved ales.

Take the Apsley Lock Bridge to get to the terrace area for a relaxing lunch at The Paper Mill Hemel Hempstead. The Apsley Rail Station is a 4-minute walk away.

Tasty food and lovely setting by the river. Good sized portions. Kids meals were fresh and good portion size.

We arrived on time, the venue was crowded but well organised. All the staff were efficient and with a helpful manner throughout our dining experience. We were not rushed in any way, being given plenty of time to both enjoy our meal and also the company we were in. We used to live in the area a few years ago and it was nice to see that the Papermill had not lost any of its charm and enjoyment. We traveled down from the West Midlands to dine here as it was a half way point for us and our relatives. Well worth the lousy two and a quarter hour journey on the M6 and the M1!!

We booked a table for the evening for our wedding anniversary on Sunday 1st May, and we were greeted by 2 friendly staff. The 3 staff we had serving us were attentative, warming, friendly, and easy to talk to. Our table was out in the open, but this was fine by us. The food we ordered was fabulous and very tasty. Cooked very well, and my steak was cooked to how I liked it. I ordered lamb croquettes for starter and 12 oz rump steak, and my husband ordered the olive bread selection and pork belly. We really enjoyed our evening out at The Paper Mill, and we would recommend it to friends and family. Thank you for such a wonderful evening.

Service was good but there must have been a problem with the kitchen as the table was booked for half 7 and the meal never came out untill half 9.

Great menu with plenty of choice. Good size portions. Friendly staff.
Only downside was the lengthy delay between courses.
