This restaurant is situated halfway between where I and my sister live. This is the second year that we have chosen the Old Stables as a meeting point to meet and enjoy a Christmas lunch together. We plan to do the same in 2014.

Perched on the edge of the beautiful South Downs National Park, and taking its name from the adjacent Fontwell Park Racecourse, The Old Stables enjoys premium views, particularly from its pretty beer garden. With a distinctive partially-thatched roof, the pub serves well-love British pub cuisine, which can be enjoyed from the al fresco dining area or by the welcoming hearth-fire.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Old Stables menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies designed by celebrity chef James Martin offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Old Stables ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

A country pub in Fontwell, but close to the coast as well, The Old Stables is only 7 minutes’ drive to Chichester.

food was very good, good portions, value for money, good service from all staff. Only disappointment a problem with many restaurants food could have been served up hotter!

We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table and awaited the rest of our party to arrive. The only downside was one of our party hard a terrible fillet steak, but the team at the old stables did not quibble about it and removed the cost from the bill. So overall the experience was very good.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, large menu selection. Particularly liked the sharing platters.
Only negative was v. small potion of veg(only 2 small carrots within the selection!)and plates were cold but we spoke to the waitress and she was back quickly with warm ones.

A slightly long wait, 45 minutes, but well worth waiting for. The restaurant was extremely busy, virtually every table taken.
