Tucked away in the leafy village of Otterbourne, The Old Forge is a rustic pub & restaurant housed in an old forge which, in the 18th century, served one of the country’s few female blacksmiths. With log fires warming it up, the pub serves a tasty menu of unfussy British food.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Old Forge menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Old Forge cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

The Old Forge in Otterbourne is a 9-minute drive from Chandlers Ford Rail Station.

Ambiance is good. The staff are friendly and helpful. Five of us ate and, overall, the food was good. However, I had cod and chips and although the cod was lovely, the minted peas were cold and the chips were overlooked and almost cold which was disappointing. I hasten to add that we have eaten here on other occasions and been entirely satisfied.

Food very good. Staff very pleasant and friendly. Atmosphere just right for a Sunday afternoon. One small hiccup - My wife and I had the three meat roast for our main course, but we didn't get our pots of crackling. We asked one of the waitresses for our crackling, and also some mustard but she never appeared again and we never saw her again! She was young, and maybe we thought she hadn't heard of crackling? Overall a lovely dining experience and we would definitely go back again.

We had a very enjoyable evening. There were x2 choices on the menu not available which was a shame. The food was very nice and service very good.

I really enjoy lunching at the Old Forge, the staff are always pleasant and helpful and the whole ambience of the place is lovely, with squishy sofas and, in the winter, roaring fires. The food is excellent and always well presented.

I've eaten here many times, on this occasion we were seated at the far end of downstairs. Felt a bit forgotten down there, service wasn't as attentive as usual. Although before we'd finished our starter our waitress came to clear our plates, twice, I felt we were being rushed, when we had finished they weren't cleared until the main course came. No one came to ask if our meals were ok and then a long wait again afterwards, in fact we had to flag down the waitress to ask for the bill. No the best dining experience I've had.
