Set in a beautiful country house in Lisvane, The Old Cottage is a cosy retreat serving modern British cuisine. This picturesque country pub is warmed by log fires and boasts a charming bar area and a large dining room with an open kitchen, as well as outdoor seating.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Old Cottage menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include roasted mushrooms, box baked Camembert, and spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar at The Old Cottage restaurant showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at the bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

Within one of the city’s most upscale areas, The Old Cottage in Cardiff is just a 2-minute walk from Lisvane & Thornhill Station.

Excellent and well-presented food. Very good service. A noisy group the only downside.

Enjoyable evening, only one fault, music in restaurant too loud! Guests who have hearing problems found it difficult converse easily.

Restaurant service was good. The lamb we ordered was too tough, I needed to ask for a steak knife to eat it. Slow roasted belly pork was ok, although the crackling was far too brittle and tasteless, mash potatoes were very bland as were the scallops. Shortage of staff was evidence at the bar, as we had to wait a very long time for a member of staff to take our drink order, due to him serving food elsewhere. We've eaten here in the past and had better food

It was a cold evening and not much heat from the fire despite being at the next table. Waitress too keen to clear table of wine glasses and side plates only to have to bring them back for our artisan bread platter then only brought one knife despite two diners. I ordered fish and chips. It was ok. Found the twice cooked chips and fish quite greasy but my fellow diner loved the pie. I'm going to stick to the pulled pork burger next time. However another plus was that we arrived early and our table was ready so we didn't have to wait around.
