It was a lovely evening. It's a relaxed place with good service and really excellent food. The amuse bouch of mushroom soup was to die for.

The experience, warm welcome and food were exceptional, especially the sticky toffee pudding which my wife said was the best she had ever had.

A really charming restaurant, with open fires and cosy atmosphere. Excellent food and delightful staff. Quite expensive for a lunch out, but certainly the quality justified the price.

As delightful as ever. Excellent staff and wonderful food delivered in a relaxed manner. It is refreshing to have a restaurant with a low turnover of staff. Says a lot about the place and the way it is run.

On this occasion I was struggling to acknowledge why the Nut Tree has a Michelin Star. Other than the puddings, very little effort seemed to have been afforded to the presentation of the dishes...they were quite ordinary looking with nothing special to make them stand out as Michelin quality. I don't believe my expectations were too high as the prices did reflect a higher quality which was sadly lacking on this visit. The salmon starter was very ordinary comprising a portion of nicely smoked fish and a quenelle of horseradish cream, hiding some pickled cucumber, all looking quite lost in the middle of the plate. My main was the lemon sole and ratte potatoes which were smothered in a chive sauce hiding the subtle flavours of the fish and again the dish didn't look elegant on the plate. Thankfully the pudding (sticky toffee pudding) was wonderfully presented to a Michelin. standard and each element of that dish was very tasty.

Very enjoyable. Good atmosphere. Attentive staff. The chef's dessert offering was disappointing, especially in view of the chocolate fondant on the menu to follow, but roast beef lunch was excellent, also the rhubarb dessert.

    Loved it!

The food and service were excellent.

What I loved most was that it was that despite being very high-end (e.g. the wine menu contained some ~£180 bottles!), I didn't feel uncomfortable asking for tap water.

It was expensive (>£20 for a main), but for the quality and the delicious bread... I wouldn't complain!

Celebrating our wedding anniversary, my wife and I made our first visit to The Nut Tree Inn and it won't be our last. We had a wonderful experience; friendly, helpful and skilled staff, sumptuous food - exceptional fine dining, with a beautifully cooked lamb dish, champ and fondant potato being my particular highlight - as well as some excellent touches including a delicious amuse bouche pre-starter and a delightful surprise pre-dessert for our anniversary. Highly recommended.
