The Norfolk Riddle Restaurant offers classic, locally-sourced British cuisine featuring meat from the farm butchery and game from the Walsingham Estate Shoot. Served fresh from the counter, the restaurant’s fish and chips are a local favourite.

Serving up British dishes with a French twist, The Norfolk Riddle menu features culinary delights such as roasted Gressingham duck breast with honeyed turnips and Chinese five spices, and succulent ox cheek and vegetables pot-au-feu with horseradish. The restaurant’s name comes from the riddles used to sort potatoes, a key Norfolk crop.

Local, fresh, and seasonal ingredients are paramount at The Norfolk Riddle, a philosophy that extends to the restaurant’s drinks, too. Diners can enjoy a superb choice of wine, local Norfolk ales and cider from nearby Wells-next-the-Sea.

Set in the gorgeous Norfolk countryside, The Norfolk Riddle Restaurant is just a 13-minute drive from nearby Fakenham.

Enjoyable lunch, good menu and good for gf but the food was almost cold which rather spilt it, the chips were luke warm, the egg and bacon in the sandwich completely cold and the fish finger just warm, service was quite slow, but we weren't in s hurry, it was busy but only one waitress so understandable. I have always enjoyed the Riddle and would come again despite the problems yesterday.

Great fish and chips by a roaring fire. Perfect for a cold February weekend.

We were a party of 6 who had just been on the Snowdrop walk in the Abbey grounds. We received a very friendy welcolme on arrival at The Riddle and it was lovely to be able to warm ourselves in front of the blazing fire !! Six of us took advantage of the 'Snowdrop walk special' Fish & Chip lunch and one chose from the Menu, a Steak. The Meals were delicious !
The fish was so fresh with lovely crispy batter ! The steak looked good too, with the biggest onion rings we had ever seen !
Only two of us managed a dessert and both had a Creme Brulee, which they said were 'yummy' !
The service throughout was quick and efficient and friendly, we all felt very much at home !

Enjoyed the meal as we have done in the past. Particularly enjoyed the mussels . Only minor observation is that the crumble could and should have been warmer. Wifi would be a welcome addition.

Very nice food. Think basic gastro-pub type food, well cooked and presented from decent local ingredients. Limited wine list. Dining room over lit.
