Food was horrible. Fried squid to start which tasted like it was cooked in dirty oil and burnt. I asked for a medium well rump steak medium rare. Arrived medium well, tasted horrible, came with watery blue cheese sauce and chips that looked like they have been on the hot plate for an hour. My wife's fish was tasteless and came with raw potato wedges. Really horrible.

My wife and I were bought a Newbury voucher - our daughter and son-in-law had had a meal at The Newbury a while back and thoroughly enjoyed it. We only had the opportunity to redeem this last night. The tables and chairs are superb - loved the church chairs. The atmosphere was good - albeit not very busy - but it was a Wednesday evening. The booking service could not have been better - very efficient. The lady who served us was excellent - unflappable and very professional (reminded us of one of our nieces). My steak was good - tender and tasty. My wife was disappointed in her selection - I forget the name but also a steak that was sliced and served with a sauce and onions over beans. The meat was a little tasteless and tough. The waitress did mention that it would not be very tender when we asked her about the dish, but did not expect it to be as chewy as it was. What we did like was that we were. It overwhelmed with background music. We were able to chat to one another without difficulty - and this, in itself, is a reason to return. Before we arrived, we looked at the menu on line and had decided what we would order. Neither of these options was available on the evening - this was disappointing. I would suggest a very regular update of the online menu to avoid this disappointment. Overall, a pleasant evening.

Had a three course meal with three friends after a day at the races, very busy glad we booked ahead staff were aware of this and we received olives complimentary to apologise for any waits in advance. Our first table was next to a huge stag do who had actually taken out chairs, so we asked to move which they swiftly did, to a much nicer quieter window chair, the manager then waited on us and he was very good. Food was very tasty apart from the chips with the steak.
Very reasonably priced and overall an excellent evening.

We had Sunday lunch on the 8th May 2016. We both ordered the Slow Roasted Beef which was superb together with the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Especially liked the vegetables nice to have fresh cabbage. We then shared a dessert which again was very nice. A bottle of house wine good and reasonably priced. Service was very good very nice waiter attentive but not pushy.

    Will be coming again.
