Really great. Went twice in ten days and when our next lot of visitors come we'll take them too. Friendly waiter interesting food - my only complaint being I would like the specials written on a board so that we can consider them more easily.

A lovingly preserved 16th-century former coaching inn set in the middle of the pretty village of Cerne Abbas, The New Inn is featured in the Good Pub Guide, and offers diners a selection of inventive British recipes with international tweaks, served alongside a traditional selection of cask ales, ciders and fine wines.

The New Inn menu has been overseen by Head Chef Matthew Bradley, who has experience working in AA Rosette restaurants, resulting in wonderfully inventive recipes. Quality British ingredients are used throughout, such as with the starter of Cornish sardines with salsa, olives, lemon and watercress, as well as mains like braised pork belly with sweet potato, schezwan and orange. There are sumptuous vegetarian options like the gruyere cheese soufflé with spiced apple, apricots and walnuts, and classic choices like the ribeye with triple cooked chips and béarnaise sauce.

Desserts at The New Inn in Dorchester are beautifully presented, and include classic flavours like lemon cheesecake with stem ginger, lemon curd and thyme. From the bar, fine wines from around the globe perfectly complement the menu, and there are also carefully selected cask ales.

With exposed wooden beams and a real feeling of rustic tradition, The New Inn is a tranquil dining spot, and sits 12 minutes' walk from Maiden Newton Rail Station.

Went for New Years Day/Sunday roast. Did not disappoint. Friendly and attentive (but not overly) service. Soup starter was delicious, as was langoustine and smoked salmon. Beef cooked to perfection (one rare, one medium rare) and the vegetables, as before, were the best we have had anywhere. Absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend.

The New Inn has recently been refurbished to a very high standard and is a very pleasant location for lunch. My husband had the Sunday roast which he assured me was superb and I had fish which was very good. The selection of fresh vegetables was delicious. The desserts were slightly disappointing - rather small portions. The service overall was very good.. Some of the tables are rather close together and we could overhear most of the conversation from the one nearest to us
