Inspired by its world-famous setting of the National Gallery, The National Café serves classic British and modern European food in timelessly elegant surroundings. Passionate about British produce, ingredients are carefully sourced.

The National Café menu features rich flavour combinations including starters of Capicola, sweet figs, ricotta and Wissey honey, and a smoked duck salad with green beans, chicory, honey mustard and peanuts. Main dishes are equally appealing, and include crab linguini with fennel, chilli and gremolata, Truffle omelette with wild mushrooms, Comte and butter leaf lettuce, and the signature burger which includes maple bacon, gruyere and Portobello mushrooms.

Desserts are an indulgent affair, and include banana split with dulche de leche, chocolate ice cream and Oreo crumble, and Italian affogato with gingerbread biscotti. Bar snacks, wines and cocktails can also be enjoyed at The National Café London.

The National Café at The National Gallery is just seconds from Trafalgar Square, and is a 2-minute walk from Charing Cross Train Station.

Great food, lovely ambience with no ghastly piped Muzak! Friendly, relaxed staff, who apparently do not receive the added service charge in tips. Black mark to the Management! We left an individual tip & no service charge. If more customers did this, the excessive 12% would disappear and a more equitable system would operate. These guys work very hard.

We were delighted with the place ( already known but happy to return ) and the excellent food and service. Altogether full marks for the welcoming staff and particularly good tea. Please omit the loud music -- you did but there was a brief blast.

We had a lovely lunch. Easy food and good service.

The food was very average. We chose from the set menu: the squid was rubbery and the fish was a very small portion. It wasn't busy but the food was simply plonked down in front of us by the female maitre d. There was no on tap beer. When we left nobody thanked us for coming we were just ignored.

Food wasn't very good. Fitch cook with skin in goujons. Chocolate tart very basic.

Good value for money. Smiling and helpul staff. Even if the place was busy we were really well. Only problem juices were sold out, children were disappointed .

Pleasant dining room, attentive service, menu choices somewhat limited but food well cooked and presented.

The word 'Cafe' is a bit misleading. This is a proper restaurant in a very elegant high-ceilinged room. Prices are reasonable and the service was very good. Great location, too, just off Trafalgar Square and handy for Charing Cross Station.

Poor service wine served was undrinkable as the bottle had been open for too long
