Inspired by its world-famous setting of the National Gallery, The National Café serves classic British and modern European food in timelessly elegant surroundings. Passionate about British produce, ingredients are carefully sourced.

The National Café menu features rich flavour combinations including starters of Capicola, sweet figs, ricotta and Wissey honey, and a smoked duck salad with green beans, chicory, honey mustard and peanuts. Main dishes are equally appealing, and include crab linguini with fennel, chilli and gremolata, Truffle omelette with wild mushrooms, Comte and butter leaf lettuce, and the signature burger which includes maple bacon, gruyere and Portobello mushrooms.

Desserts are an indulgent affair, and include banana split with dulche de leche, chocolate ice cream and Oreo crumble, and Italian affogato with gingerbread biscotti. Bar snacks, wines and cocktails can also be enjoyed at The National Café London.

The National Café at The National Gallery is just seconds from Trafalgar Square, and is a 2-minute walk from Charing Cross Train Station.

The word 'Cafe' is a bit misleading. This is a proper restaurant in a very elegant high-ceilinged room. Prices are reasonable and the service was very good. Great location, too, just off Trafalgar Square and handy for Charing Cross Station.

Poor service wine served was undrinkable as the bottle had been open for too long

It was okay - the reservation didn't seem to make a difference and I didn't receive the discount. The venue was extremely busy and harried and they would not accommodate my request for vegetarian and seafood only sandwiches.

Wow what a warm welcome, and a lovely seating area.
My best friend and I went for the classic aftednoon tea, which came with lovely fresh tasty sandwiches, warm fruity scones, and scummy fancy petit mini cakes of a great flavour and style.

Lovely atmosphere and service but food very overpriced - £14 for a single fishcake and a minute amount of mushy peas!

Good food and service in elegant surroundings.

We have been going there for years. The service was friendly. The food has gone down in quality, I'm afraid. The chicken salad has lots of lettuce and tiny bits of bacon and chicken. Disappointing. The kedgeree isn't as good as it used to be. It feels like corners are being cut.

It was a disaster!! It took 45mins before our drinks arrived, soup was cold & had to be sent back, waitress was surly, eventually, the manager came over & apologised & discounted the bill, but this ruined the evening, wouldn't go back.

Love the National Cafe. It reminds me of the Eastern European coffee houses that you find in Budapest. Lofty yet intimate with a hit of 19th century. And the food and service is almost always great.
