Inspired by its world-famous setting of the National Gallery, The National Café serves classic British and modern European food in timelessly elegant surroundings. Passionate about British produce, ingredients are carefully sourced.

The National Café menu features rich flavour combinations including starters of Capicola, sweet figs, ricotta and Wissey honey, and a smoked duck salad with green beans, chicory, honey mustard and peanuts. Main dishes are equally appealing, and include crab linguini with fennel, chilli and gremolata, Truffle omelette with wild mushrooms, Comte and butter leaf lettuce, and the signature burger which includes maple bacon, gruyere and Portobello mushrooms.

Desserts are an indulgent affair, and include banana split with dulche de leche, chocolate ice cream and Oreo crumble, and Italian affogato with gingerbread biscotti. Bar snacks, wines and cocktails can also be enjoyed at The National Café London.

The National Café at The National Gallery is just seconds from Trafalgar Square, and is a 2-minute walk from Charing Cross Train Station.

The renovated cafe proved to be a wonderful spot for a catch-up lunch with a friend. He enjoyed the fresh, superfood salad on a sunny Spring day with perfectly cooked chips and my brill with sauce vierge and new potatoes was both tasty and substantial. Desserts looked delicious, but we ran out of time and will need to return soon for Part 2.
Our waiter was attentive, efficient, cheerful and courteous throughout, without bothering us with too much unnecessary water-pouring!
All-in-all, a great, surprise find, which we had first chosen principally for reasons of location convenience.

A great place to have quiet lunch in the middle of hustle and bustle of the city centre. The atmosphere and interior are great, as well as the food and service.

The restaurant had just had a major re-design (good) but the menu has changed & is a lot dearer than before. Two items were missing off the menu which was disappointing.
    It is a SUPERB location.

Very pleasant restful ambience, my duck terrine and rhubarb pickle was very good, also the baked pineapple and coconut dessert. Very nice service.

Good service, lovely food. The wine could have been colder but the waiter did bring an ice bucket.

Tempting menu, comfortable seating, no overcrowding of tables so venue felt spacious, quiet enough to talk.

Had a very delicious lunch salad. Friendly staff. Very noisy premises. Could hardly hear to converse. Too packed with tables. Liked the old 'rustic' furnishing much better than the new 'formica' look. Very bare tables on arriving. Why not a small cloth or mats? A flower? A candle... Room clearly arranged for max profit. Much nicer before. Now rather like a school dinner dining room Also rather mean. No bread butter which could be served without extra charge. A water carafe on the table. It is unlikely we return.

Nice. Food and wine a bit pricey for what it is but ok.
