The Mulberry Tree Boughton Monchelsea has earned widespread critical acclaim as well as 2 AA Rosettes and a place in the Michelin Guide. Serving modern British and European cuisine, the restaurant boasts an elegant but homely interior, and a sunny terrace and garden.
The Mulberry Tree menu is led by produce that is both seasonal and local. Having worked at The Ritz, head chef Mark Pearson’s dishes are rich in flavour and beautifully presented. Favourites include ribeye steak with roasted garlic and green peppercorn butter and triple-cooked chips, or roasted hake with smoked cockles, red wine-glazed salsify and chestnut mushrooms. From the vegetarian options, try celeriac and gruyere gratin, with poached prunes, candied walnuts and apple salad.
Puddings at The Mulberry Tree near Maidstone are gloriously indulgent, and include dark chocolate and Irish whisky crème brulée, served with triple chocolate biscotti. The extensive wine list more than complements the flavour-packed dishes.
The Mulberry Tree Kent is surrounded by picturesque countryside. Maidstone is a 15-minute drive away.

We had a lovely evening. The food was lovely, the staff very friendly and welcoming, and the service was excellent.

Food was delicious.
Service however was not up to usual standard. We had a new inexperienced waitress who was also finding her way with the English language. She tried hard though.
Also we were overcharged which was picked up by checking the bill carefully.
We have been here several times but this was the first time we received both a poor greeting and non existent goodbye. Previously someone has met us in the foyer and welcomed us and taken our coats. The lady just stood by the bar and waited for us to enter to her. She had no other customers to deal with at the time.
A bit disappointing from our usual experience here especially as we were introducing someone new to the restaurant and it was a celebratory meal

Wonderful. We have just moved into the area. It was pot luck where we celebrated our wedding anniversary and picked The Mulberry Tree on looking at the website. The service was friendly and professional. The meal was delicious. Thank you to all the staff front and back of house.

Very nice restaurant in a rural setting. The food was well prepared, and staff pleasant and were not pushy.

some good and bad points:
Seats were very uncomfortable for a 2hr visit.
Service appeared distracted even when the restaurant was empty.
Service to our table after being seated and provided with drinks appeared to be more of an after thought as the restaurant got busier.
Ambience was not as expected, too quiet and in the space our table was packed into, you could hear people conversations as if they were seated with you. Not really a dinner for two when you feel like you have to whisper
Food was well prepared and presented.
Perfect amount of choice to choose from on menu.
Wine list was good.
Generally friendly staff with good intentions.
Overal, the Restuarant was nice but probably won't return. In our opinion, prices were about 15-20% too much when you consider the seating we had and overal ambience. There's nothing to entice you back, we didn't leave thinking there was anything that made the Restuarant stand out. This is meant to be a bad review as our experience was nothing like that, it just wasn't what we expected - the cost was there, the end result wasn't.
Unfortunately we didn't experience the garden seating due to weather, so it's possible the feeling and ambience would have differed had it been sunny with outdoor seating area in use. It looked lovely from inside anyway.

Karen is a great host , food is excellent, service is good and the place looks great in a modern contemporary way .The comfortable garden seating outside in the well kept garden adds another place to sit eat and drink ..
It is a a quite noisy restaurant probably due to the number of hard surfaces and little in the way of fabrics or carpets to dampen the sound. the result is if there is a rowdy party everyone else can hear it.

Food was great. Service left a bit to be desired. Waitress lent across the table to serve the ladies sitting next to the wall. There was no need to do that and frankly unexpected in your restaurant. Also, had the classic experience of being forgotten about at the end of the evening when the pressure was off the staff. It wasn't just us, the table next to us also struggled to get any attention in order to settle the bill.
