Lovely afternoon tea - somewhat different but still scrumptious and plenty of it! Good selection of teas. The cocktail was sublime. The service excellent.

Place, service, staff all ver good. One of my party is lactose intolerant and I was impressed with the service she received. The person in charge said that as her experience could not possibly be as good the rest of my party owing to her lactose intolerance there would be no charge for her afternoon tea.
I thought that this was a very kind and thoughtful gesture

The afternoon tea time is excellent! The salmon macaroon is to die for!! and the scones are really good! There is all kinds of tea so you are sure to find one that you like. The lounge is cute and very cosy with a fire place and the staff is nice. We really enjoyed our time there!

Overall, the afternoon tea 'cabbages and roses' was a rather nice experience. I had offered it as a birthday gift to a friend of mine. Staff offered her an additional birthday cake with a candle which was a nice gesture (although I had pre-arranged this). The menu was excellent and the quality of the food very good. The setting was lovely with a piano being played on the background.
The start was rather sluggish though. We were made to wait 30 mins before drinks were served. Staff could have been a bit more attentive and communicative too. A member of staff assumed I was my friend's father which made me laugh but was somewhat embarrassing and uncalled for (I wasn't present at the time this occurred).

The service was excellent as always and as expected from a 5 star hotel. I took my friend for his birthday lunch and booked a deal at £30pp including half a bottle of wine per person. Sadly we were disappointed with the wine. There were only 2 choices and the wine was of poor quality, very cheap and did not taste good. We would have preferred one decent glass of wine each instead of a cheap and disgusting bottle of wine. The food however was very nice. My friend was given a complimentary birthday cake which was a lovely surprise. Great experience, but would not book this deal again with the wine offer. It wasn't worth it.

My daughter and I enjoyed another splendid supper at The Montagu last Thursday . We had the 3 courses including half a bottle of wine each for £30 which was incredible value. Our Italian waiter was charming and we were particularly touched by the congratulatory macaroons. A lovely gesture and we hope to return soon.
