Loved it! Had lunch and really enjoyed it. Good variety in the menu for a light meal or something a little heartier, something for everyone. Service and venue both excellent. I have already recommended it to a friend. Just wish it was a bit closer to where I live.

In an historic building right on the banks of the river Frome, The Mill in Rode is a stunning rural bar, restaurant and piece of local heritage. Hearty international dishes and real ales are served, with a large outdoor deck overlooking the water.
The Mill menu boasts a fantastic selection of dishes, ranging from British pub classics like local sausages, creamed mash and onion gravy, to speciality Carolina dry-rub pork ribs. The restaurant uses a chargrill to prepare a range of skewers, steaks and burgers, which come with wine suggestions.
Desserts at The Mill Rode include favourites like warm double chocolate brownie with Marshfield Farm ice cream, and Granny Smith apple and butterscotch crumble. A fine selection of ales comes courtesy of the Butcombe Brewery.
Offering an idyllic setting which is also available for riverside weddings, The Mill Somerset is just 17 minutes' drive from Avoncliff Rail Station.

Customer reviews for The Mill - Rode
(**** 19 October 2016 by Paul Mitchell from Rode
The service began well, but quickly deteriorated. The main course took over 45 mins to come and with young children, that is too long especially as we only ordered the roast dinners. The food only came immediately after we had chased it and the food was barely warm. I would imagine that it had been plated up for some time. There was no point sending it back as the children were very hungry and also no member of staff enquired to ask if we were enjoying our meal. We have regularly visited The Mill for the past 11 years, but in recent times the service and quality of food has slipped dramatically. Such a shame as it is a beautiful location and walking distance from our home.

Everything was excellent except the music. We got it turned down, but the experience would be much better with no music.

We had a very pleasant lunch with four of us dining together. We thought the choice was varied and catered for small and larger appetites as well as those wanting only a light lunch. We all chose from the mains menu and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We had puddings as well and again there was a good selection and we thought they were delicious. Service was friendly and efficient and we were asked by two different staff members if our main meals were OK. The dishes were served hot and were attractively presented. We considered that it was good value for money.

The initial table allocation on the ground floor was not good, as there were 3 of us squeezed onto a small round table in a dim corner. We asked to be moved & were immediately moved to a table on the first floor. From that point forward the experience was excellent.
The welcome was warm & friendly (the welcome on the ground floor was mediocre at best). The waiting staff were efficient & friendly & the food was excellent. One of the best roast dinners in a long, long time with superb roast potatoes, huge Yorkshire puddings & a tasty selection of vegetables. The seafood kebab with sweet potato chips was a true show stopper. We had desserts- Chocolate Brownie & Sticky Toffee Pudding (well it would be rude not to try!) & they were truly scrumptious.
The location, ambience & quality of our visit yesterday means we will definitely return. Thank you one & all for making an ordinary day something special & one to remember for all the right reasons!

Sunday lunch was good. More gravy was requested, but, arrived when the meal was almost over, at the second time of asking! The location and venue are fantastic. I have made a booking for a large party soon and will be interested in the outcome as this could be a regular event.
