In an historic building right on the banks of the river Frome, The Mill in Rode is a stunning rural bar, restaurant and piece of local heritage. Hearty international dishes and real ales are served, with a large outdoor deck overlooking the water.

The Mill menu boasts a fantastic selection of dishes, ranging from British pub classics like local sausages, creamed mash and onion gravy, to speciality Carolina dry-rub pork ribs. The restaurant uses a chargrill to prepare a range of skewers, steaks and burgers, which come with wine suggestions.

Desserts at The Mill Rode include favourites like warm double chocolate brownie with Marshfield Farm ice cream, and Granny Smith apple and butterscotch crumble. A fine selection of ales comes courtesy of the Butcombe Brewery.

Offering an idyllic setting which is also available for riverside weddings, The Mill Somerset is just 17 minutes' drive from Avoncliff Rail Station.

Three couples went from The House and two had very good experiences. They said food was very good and service was friendly. The third couple ate on both nights and on both nights the bill was incorrect (in their favour) and on one night the white wine came from the cellar and was not chilled. All three couples said they would return!

Really lovely meal at a pretty location. Food was of a high quality as were the staff. Would highly recommend.

They were quite busy but the service was slow. The food was slightly above average (chef didn't like seasoning) but the menu was interesting. The ambience was excellent though.

Staff were not prompt in their service and did not listen to what was ordered. Menu pretentious and any side dishes of veg were extra. Potatoes were covered in butter when no butter had been requested. Ice in drink when no ice was requested. Batter on fish very dark and overdone. Chips undercooked. No sauce supplied with steak even though it was inclusive. When requested it arrived but they charged for it. Asked for mint sauce but it never arrived. We had already complained about ice and buttered potatoes. We felt we couldn't complain any more so two people ate the fish and chips but didn't really enjoy. lamb shank had little flavour. Overcharged us for shandy.Complained to manager and was offered a £60 credit voucher.....but we are not looking forward to returning I'm afraid as the cook is clearly mediocre and the front staff are not great.

Lovely setting but poor food. Dry frazzled lamb, Yorkshire puddings which turn to ash in your mouth, potatoes tasted like frozen and reheat. Orange juice and lemonade came as a cordial. Whilst the waiting staff were lovely we had to ask for menus 3 times in spite of being about the only people there at the time. Had to ask for the bill twice. Close to £90 for 3 people before tip having 2 courses each, so not cheap, so it's a real shame the experience wasn't up to the setting.

I'm afraid that the Mill at Rode (which normally is lovely) was really busy on the Saturday night that we went. We had a very long wait for the food (each course) and food overall was, unfortunately, under-par. To be fair the Mill gave us free desserts without us asking, so at least they felt and knew they were under staffed...
