Boasting views to the gothic and grand Melville Castle, The Melville Inn Lasswade enjoys a fantastic country location which can be enjoyed from the al fresco beer garden. With a beautiful stone and white exterior, and a classic brick and oak interior, The Melville Inn is a great country destination. The menu of well-loved British meals can also be enjoyed next to a toasty hearth.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Melville Inn menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Melville Inn ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
Close to Dalkeith, The Melville Inn is just 17 minutes’ drive into central Edinburgh.

Service a bit slow they seemed to mix up what we wanted which delayed our meal. This was a special occasion my friend and I celebrating our 75th birthdays. My husbands potato mash was burnt around the edges. My sweet potatoes were a bit overdone.

The waiter didn't seem to know what what was on the menu - he was puzzled when we both ordered fish cakes.
When they arrived it was the most bizarre meal. 1 hot , burnt fish cake on top of limp lettuce with a couple of small potatoes and some over cooked broccoli in a dressing. The fish cake was mostly made of rice. Very strange . We told the waiter and left most of the meal. The cappuccino was weak and mostly milk but was also extremely hot. I certainly won't be going back.

good service we had two blind people and a guide dog in our party and we were all very well looked after quiet table with room for the dog. the food was very nice cooked to perfection. we requested the steaks be cut up to make things easy for the blind couple and they complied with our request. we were also given as much time as we needed before ordering .the waiting staff were very patient.

Good choice of food. The soup was lovely and the roast beef and vegetables were cooked to perfection
I had Eton Mess for pudding and it was sooooo delicious. Our waitress was so nice and friendly and service was very quick. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

This is the 2nd time I have lunched here with 4 friends.
This time we had a much better table in a conservatory. Much brighter than our last visit. Also right next to a wood burning stove which was very welcome touch on a cold day!
Our server, a very tall guy with I think a European accent was very efficient and pleasant. 4 of us had the pizza which was delicious. One of us had the fish and chips which sadly she didn't enjoy.
The lady who brought the desserts was also very friendly.
Sadly the restaurant was very quiet (as it was the last time we were there). It looks like the opening of another eatery right across the road has had an impact on the Melville. I think some people find it a bit confusing finding the access to the Melville as it is the same entrance to Debbie's Garden Centre. Maybe a more obvious sign might help??
All in all we did enjoy and it's nice to not be rushed and made to feel as if they want you to vacate your table.
