We had a wonderful evening. Staff were lovely, service was good even though they were very busy. Lovely food and excellent wine menu.

Named Restaurant of the Year in the Kent Taste Awards 2012, The Marquis at Alkham offers luxury modern British dishes made using the finest local ingredients. The cosmopolitan yet cosy dining room features pinstriped velvet and rustic exposed brickwork, with views offered out onto the rolling local countryside.

Head Chef Andrew King presides over delicious menus that change regularly, bursting with robust, fresh flavours served with flair. Highlights on the menu include roast partridge with cocotte potato, quince, curly kale, streaky bacon & green cobnuts, fillets of Dover sole with black trompette mushrooms, sweetcorn, sea vegetables & chive dauphine, and venison loin with root vegetable pan haggerty, elderberry sauce, black cabbage & Ashmore cheese.

The enticing dessert menu is heading by earl grey & strawberry soufflé with camomile ice cream. An impressive bar stock features Old and New World wines, as well as bins from Kentish vineyards, and beers from local breweries.

The Marquis at Alkham is a 5-minute drive from Kearsney (Kent) Rail Station.

Five star lunch! Beautiful surroundings, wonderful food and great value for money.

As always a good experience - but this time the service was really excellent, especially from Lesley. Nothing was too much trouble.
The wines were good as was the food. Just one small quibble - I always look forward to the very excellent lamb dish, which was missing from the menu on this occasion - so I had the roast beef a bit reluctantly, having been assured by Lesley that it would be rare. And it was - soft and very delicious. The roast potatoes tasted a bit of having waited around too long - but otherwise the meal was delicious. But I did miss the lamb..... and also something green with the roast beef.

This afternoon tea was a gift. Although we do not usually partake of afternoon tea in this quantity of food it was very enjoyable. The service friendly and the restaurant has a very pleasant feel to it.

The staff were friendly however the waiting time for the afternoon tea was 40 minutes which is too long given that we had booked a table at a specific time . Iwe enjoyed the ta but it certainly wasn't worth the price I was just pleased that j got a reduced price voucher from groupon

We had a most pleasant afternoon at Alkham. The area is a hidden gem topped by the most attractive hotel. This was our first visit to this particular spot and it is well worth revisiting. Afternoon tea was the highlight. The public rooms are tastefully decorated in a modern style and are comfortable, light and airy. The first delight was finding such a wide choice of teas. We found one that we had last tasted in Sri Lanka, so holiday memories surfaced. There was a variety of sandwich fillings followed aby a selection of delightful cakes and pastries.

The service was professional and timely yet friendly. We shall certainly be returning, probably more than once if this standard is maintained.

Excellent food, but young inexperienced waiters with no evidence of management led to poor service.
