Highlights on the menu include roast partridge with cocotte potato, quince, curly kale, streaky bacon & green cobnuts, fillets of Dover sole with black trompette mushrooms, sweetcorn, sea vegetables & chive dauphine, and venison loin with root vegetable pan haggerty, elderberry sauce, black cabbage & Ashmore cheese.

The enticing dessert menu is heading by earl grey & strawberry soufflé with camomile ice cream. An impressive bar stock features Old and New World wines, as well as bins from Kentish vineyards, and beers from local breweries.

Friendly and efficient waiting staff. Plenty of space in the restaurant, tables not too close to each other. Good choices of all courses. We both had brill which was very good, likewise the deserts.
All in all a very enjoyable experience.

This is a superb place to eat, but sadly it did not live up to it's usual high standards on this occassion. Food was fantastic! Service was almost non-existent. It seemed rushed when it happened. The staff seemed in a hurry to prep up for the next day, rather than deliver the usual excellent service to us. We were not offered drinks, we were not given cutlery. It was a shambles. I will go back, as I love the ambience, the food, and the normal service is second to none. An off day, but hope it will improve to its former glory!

The waiting staff were very attentive and polite. However, I requested no mustard or creme fresh on my bread but it was there anyway. I couldn't eat the sandwich and because they were only 'finger' size, it didn't seem worth complaining about. So not eaten. The scone was nice, but the other choice of cake were not to my taste. The experience was a gift but had I had to have paid £15 per person for what was on offer, I wouldn't have been happy. I also felt that because we were there for 'afternoon tea' we were pushed to one side. We obviously wasn't shown into the restaurant so had no overall view of what the hotel/restaurant had to offer. I personally felt a little bit 'tucked away' from the other diners/guests.

Had a lovely Afternoon tea here, a lovely area and very tastefully decorated restaurant with a nice feel. We had a good selection of cakes, I always think it's a shame that the only savoury items are 3 little finger sandwiches, it would be nice if maybe another savoury element was added instead of so many cakes, just an idea. The only negative is that although we saw many staff serving etc not one waiter asked if everything was alright or we would like more tea !! .

I can wholeheartedly recommend The Marquis at Alkham. We went for lunch on our wedding anniversary and the food was superb.Full of flavour and cooked beautifully.
For starters we both had the pigeon on celeriac puree, (I chose this to see how they cook it and to get ideas as I often shoot these birds and have never had celeriac). For mains I had the roasted Chicken with cabbage, which I can honestly say was the best chicken I have ever had, and my wife had the sea bream, which again is unusual as she never normally orders fish - as she hates finding bones - none were encountered in the bream. We did overindulge and have pudding, lemon and lime Eton mess with lime sorbet. Sweet enough and the lime sorbet cut through this with a sharpness which really cleansed the palette. I can't say much about the wifes chocolate torte and I didn't get to try any, but all the plates from each of the courses were clean.

Service was attentive, friendly and unhurried which suited us very nicely.

We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The service was polite and attentive. The food was delectable and satisfying. All this and so much more at a very reasonable price. We shall definitely be returning in the near future.
