At the crux of the Grand Union Canal and Fray’s River, The Malt Shovel enjoys a beautiful situation, in an eye-catching, listed 19th-century building. The whitewashed exterior and colourful interior aids the rustic charm created by the traditional British pub cuisine. You can enjoy the food by the welcoming log-fire, or in the al fresco garden for summer dining.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Malt Shovel menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Malt Shovel ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

At just 5 minutes’ drive from both West Drayton Train Station and Uxbridge, The Malt Shovel is a country haven but close to towns.

I was not impressed by my broad bean and asparagus risotto - there were few beans and scant asparagus - just rice really. The others were generally happy but one didn't find many chicken pieces in his Chicken pie.

Restaurant was very hot, we were seated quickly, staff were friendly, portion sizes were inconsistent we asked if the sharing platter was suitable for 3 and as waitress was new she didn't know it wasn't, the garlic bread portion that other people had was massive as a starter in comparison, the chips with the fillet steak meal were tiny portion and we had to ask for more to make them the same size as the other dishes. The food itself was very good though, our bill had 2 extra items on it but the waitress did fix that as soon as we brought it to her attention with an apology. Overall it was a mixed visit with good points but also things to improve

Good service, good food in a good location. We use this pub because, I have a serious hearing problem in restaurants etc. The staff always make sure we are situated in a quiet area away from noisy tables so that I am able to interact with my fellow diners and the staff.
The staff are friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble.
Would really like more chicken dishes like chicken breast burgers or something like feathers and fur

We live on a narrow boat near to the Malt Shovel. Our son was coming for a visit with his girlfriend before going to Gatwick. As we had dined there before and enjoyed the meal with excellent service we knew it would be a lovely way to spend time with them. Our son is in the RAF so we do not get to see much of him. The Malt Shovel is an easy going and quite home like sort of place. We enjoyed the evening and it was lovely to be able to chat and catch up without having a TV blaring in some corner.
