A grand and ancient country pub with views over the River Darent, The Lion – Farningham dates back to the 16th century, and offers well-loved British pub cuisine. It features a combination of traditional and modern furnishings, through the cosy brick hearth and plush armchairs, but also modern art and colourful curtains and cushions. The food can also be enjoyed from outside, in the pretty al fresco garden.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Lion menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Lion ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Lion is just 4 minutes’ drive from Farningham Road Train Station, in the scenic Kent.

Shocking !! We've been going to this pub for last couple of years now. Yesterday's experience has left us utterly disappointed. The lady who waited on us came across as being very very rude . We went with our 7 year old daughter and friends who have a son about the same age . Both being a little cheeky found an empty table and saw tip money which had been left by previous customers .
We asked the kids to not to touch the money and they immediately agreed. All of a sudden, the waitress came to our table accusing the kids to have stolen part of the tip. We asked our kids and they denied taking any money. We even checked their pockets .Knowing our kids we're sure that they hadn't done it and tried to explained it to the waitress too. She, however had already assumed and didn't agree. She accused the kids to have stolen money . We explained politely but to no avail and rude responses from her. Her demeanour had some preconceived biases for reasons I can't fathom.
Anyways we paid her double the tip and left .
I will never recommend this place to anyone .

We have dined here many time and have always been impressed with the food and the service. however on this visit we were far from impressed. the food took age to arrive and when it di the steak was tough as old boots, and the fish with the fish and chips was tiny, and the chips were cold. I cannot fault the waitress, she was worked off of her feet and was very apologetic. it appears there was a large party in this evening and that is what caused the delay. Had we been told this at the beginning of the evening, we could have managed our expectations.

We were a party of 6 enjoying a sixtieth birthday celebration. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but clearly there was not enough of them. Food took over an hour to come to our table, and the choice was limited due to the grill being out of service. I would like to emphasise that the staff were doing their best in what was clearly a difficult situation.

The service was disgusting staff very rude I had to ask twice for everything my pie was cold and had a big hole in it and when I complained about this the staff didn't do anything to rectify this.

    Polite and friendly staff
Lovely warm fire at the back of the restaurant
Food was good and the hot drink with a mini dessert is such a good idea
Overall relaxing early supper which is just what we needed

Whilst the atmosphere there is good we were very disappointed with the meal. We had taken our friends there for a pre-xmas lunch'! This was their first visit and how disappointing it was when my friends meal arrived at the table 'cold'. We mentioned it to the waitress and were offered a full refund on her dinner...which we accepted! Our drinks waitress was very clumsy and spilt drinks at our table. So all in all this was what we expected!!

The worst meal in years. The wine was served in a glass which smelt of dirty dishcloth cloth. Was then just poured into a clean glass. Went for the roast platter for 2. The meat and gravy was cold so asked for it to be reheated. Came back just as cold. The meat was not even room temperature at which stage I opted not to eat. My partner tried for the third time. Barely warm. Tough meat. Soggy frozen roast potatoes. This meal was for my mother in laws birthday treat. Although we were only charged for the wine the whole scenario was unacceptable. 5the person cooking this..I cannot call them a chef...should be ashamed to be sending out food of this standard. Will never return to a vintage Inn and would certainly not recommend.
