Listed in The Michelin Guide, The Lemon Tree offers contemporary, relaxed fine dining in an historic 16th-century building. Local head chef / proprietor Luke Fishpool has been creating innovative menus for 18 years using local suppliers of seasonal, quality produce wherever possible.

Choose from classic dishes like Godminster cheese soufflé, local grass-fed steak and chips or sticky toffee pudding with black treacle ice cream. Alternatively go for the ‘Taste of…’ set menu where seasonal ingredients are regularly showcased.

The wine list shows a similar blend of classic and contemporary with wines from all over the world and occasional hidden gems popping up on our blackboard. Wine and food pairings are showcased with the likes of Croatian Malvasia enjoyed alongside English asparagus. The Private Dining Room is a favourite with local businesses as well as a space for private celebrations, food demonstrations and wine master classes.

Centrally located in the town centre and just 10 minutes from the M11 junction 8 and Stansted airport, The Lemon Tree has its own private car park.

The food was absolutely gorgeous, nicely presented and cooked beautifully. I had the nicest piece of hake that I have ever had. The downside for us was that the little things were not covered. Only some water glasses on the table, no salt but 2 pepper pots and both the White and rose wine drinkers had to have ice as the wine was not cold. The staff were all incredibly young. No one there over the age of maybe 24 and No one seemed to be managing them...just a little point as not sure they would be capable if something happened that shouldn't. Having said that, will definitely go back for the food

The food was superb, very tasty and very well presented. Waiting staff very pleasant but could have been better organised.

We had a really relaxing evening for Robert's Birthday. We have been to The Lemon Tree before and save our visits for something special. His dessert plate had Happy Birthday piped round the rim!!! The food is always very good and the staff are excellent. I shall go more often perhaps with a girlfriend for lunch.

Friendly staff good at their job. The food was superb - though the smoked haddock omelette was huge and beyond my capacity! The cheese souffle starter was delicious , just the right consistency and really hot. The black pudding starters were eaten with relish! Those that had the fish and chips declared them the best ever whilst the liver and bacon was cooked to perfection. Atmosphere was really good - it is one of the few restaurants where you can actually hear what your friends are saying. Well done to all.
