In a distinctively old and beautiful building, The King’s Head Epping has structural aspects from 450, and the rest from 17th-century ship timber. Therefore, it is brimming with rustic charm, with a primarily wooden design, extensive and beautiful gardens from which you can dine, and a welcoming hearth-fire for winter. However, with more contemporary seating and sofas, the eclectically-decorated interior delivers a great duality of tradition and modernity.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The King’s Head menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The King’s Head ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

While in the country village of North Weald Bassett, The King’s Head is only 6 minutes’ drive from Epping.

On arrival we found the pub to be welcoming and full of character, we got drinks and were shown to our table , we have found it difficult to get a good roast dinner, and sure enough the Kings head did not disappoint! The food was cold ,roast potatoes were older cooked , so we're the parsnips, gravy was more like soup? We sent the meals back and they brought new meals, which we ate , but wasn't impressed at all. Staff didn't seem to be experienced, total cost £52 ! With drinks . Not impressed , won't be going back!!!

Food was very poor, service very slow, despite not busy. Meat was very tough, veg over cooked. Very disappointing!

Staff friendly and smiling. Food left a lot to be desired. Two dining had the vegetarian option that day which was cheese and potato pie. Pastry case hard and cheese only filled half . Both diners left the top half of the pastry case. I ordered butternut, beetroot and onion quiche. This was certainly not a quiche which I was served. Small cheesy pastry with bits of the vegetable cut into very very small pieces, grilled and placed on top. Only three pieces of each vegetable.!
I think the prices charged for these dishes was extortionate in view of the quality of the food. I dine out quite a lot and this has to be the worst food I have been served with for a very long time.
I would usually complain at the time but I could see that this would have been a complete waste of time.
The Kings Head is a lovely venue and have been dining there since the middle of the 80's but will think twice before going back there again.

Good food and service, excellent choice of drinks, best I have known for a chain. One great touch was the fact that you could order a mini desert and coffee, great innovation that proved popular with most of the group.

    An enjoyable lunchtime

    Booked family lunch
Menu quite extensive with daily choices on blackboard.
Staff very helpful and will give advice if asked. I had the herb crusted pork Sunday lunch which I can highly recommend and all foods were cooked to a good standard and enjoyed by the rest of my family.
Service was quick but not rushed.
The only downside was the table we were given in a corner which had a bright spotlight shining into the eyes of two of us facing towards the bar area. Although we like to see what we are eating if we were allocated this table on our next visit we would ask for another table as it's uncomfortable to sit through a meal and converse while ones eyes feel painful.

No veggie roast & limited veggie options! Had run out of a number of menu items, seemed a little disorganised & stretched (with only 1 waitress who was very friendly & apologetic). Food was quite nice although not hot & vegetables were hard. Needs a little tlc
