Voted 20th in a 2014 poll of the Top 50 Gastro Pubs in the UK, The Jack in the Green enjoys a secluded country setting in Exeter. A refined British dining menu takes pride of place alongside a wine list 17 years in the making.

Lightly-curried cod fillet with tempura mussels, apple and sultanas form a delicious starter on The Jack in the Green menu, and can be followed by the ‘totally Devon option’ of tender slow-braised pork belly with star anise, ginger and rhubarb sauce. An exquisite 5-course tasting menu features a la carte options paired with harmonising wines, while a light bar menu includes comforting pies and pub classics.

Vegetarians at The Jack in the Green in Exeter can enjoy a creative veggie menu, and there’s also a carefully-considered children’s menu for little diners. Venture outdoors for sun-drenched al fresco dining, while the interior boasts 3 elegant dining rooms and a classically-styled bar.

The Jack in the Green lies in Rockbeare, 7 miles from the centre of Exeter.

Nice ambiance, good food , good service, friendly people. Not cheap, but then they do have to pay Bookatable's fees!

We have been going to The Jack for years. Food is always high quality - the turbot was lovely. The service is always friendly and well paced. Good evening even though we were in a bit of a rush.

Over 4 years since we last visited Jack in the Green - and not to be disappointed by the food, delicious menu choice, ambience, service - all great! We were a party of five and our table was quite large making it a bit difficult to chat to everyone quietly. Terribly sad however to see that the place is now surrounded by 850 new houses - Hope it won't change or lower its standards as a result!

Staff, food, atmosphere always a very good experience, you look forward to it and never let down. Lamb in suart outstanding, as was new version of prawn cocktail, indeed we all enjoyed every course as we invariably do.

Efficient booking, friendly welcome and helpful staff.
The chef's complimentary starter was nice as always.
Delicious turbot, and Moroccan tangine, but the pulled pork was too smoked and my daughter refused to eat it.
The parfait was "de-constructed" and not quite what I expected and I wouldn't choose it again. The sticky toffee pudding was the usual excellent standard but portion size is certainly smaller than when I had this previously.

Very pleasant. Staff attentive and cheerful. Menu very comprehensive and enjoyable. Had been to restaurant before but not for a long time so delighted to find that high standard had been maintained.
