Friendly and efficient staff who were very welcoming. Food was excellent, as always and very good value for money. We felt relaxed and will most certainly return. In fact, I have a table booked with friends for tomorrow (Friday) lunchtime. Regards Anita

Pub Group of the Year for 2013, Brunning and Price present The Horse and Groom in Reading, a rustic country pub and restaurant. Elegant British cuisine partners a sophisticated wine list and locally-brewed cask ales, which can be enjoyed al fresco on the patio.

Traditional British dishes on The Horse and Groom menu incorporate seasonal ingredients and include a tender braised shoulder of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes and rosemary gravy, and a delicate fillet of sea trout with confit fennel, saffron parmentier potato and crab mayonnaise. Alongside traditional recipes, international influences shine through dishes such as the Malaysian-spiced chicken breast, which comes with sticky coconut rice and a fragrant mango and chilli salad.

The Horse and Groom in Hare Hatch is a beautifully traditional Tudor building dating back to the early 1700s. Rustic wooden beams and chunky country dining tables characterise the homely interior, while a paved outdoor patio enjoys the cover and shade of large canopy umbrellas.

The Horse and Groom is in the centre of idyllic Hare Hatch, 7 miles from the centre of Reading.

Good food at fair prices, pleasant staff, although the service was a little slow at times.

Really enjoyable meal. Good choice of mains and puds for gluten free but only one starter. Wine was corked but replaced immediately with no problem and the second bottle was perfect. Would go again. Lovely atmosphere.

A great experience from booking to dining. We were treating our neighbours for looking after our house for 3 months while we were in Australia. The surroundings, service and food were very good. Absolutely no negatives.

Overall the experience was a reasonable one. There was a mix up about the coffee's. The server was not a good listener. Plates were removed from the table before the whole group had finished their main meal. The young girl who served us ( I don't know her name as she didn't introduce herself to us) was rather distant and seemed not to enjoy her work hence the poor tip. However, the food was good and hot on arrival as was the coffee and the food was attractively plated up.

I ordered the fish cakes which was lovely.

    Very good attention to detail
Meal was scrumptious - three fish starter light and delicious, chicken pie was a bit big for me....but the next time I would probably go without lunch to make room for your food........likewise with crumble - half portion would've been enough but very yummy.
    Definitely will be visiting again!
