The food and service were all excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly - we particularly liked the souffle dessert - it was magnificent.

Set up by Michelin-starred chef Martin Wishart in 2011, The Honours is an elegant and modern French restaurant in Edinburgh. Its brasserie-style menu has been created by Martin Wishart and current head chef Paul Tamburrini, and incorporates seasonal, Scottish ingredients.

Signature chateaubriand and roast rib of beef are grilled for 2 to share, with the former served with duck-fat chips, and the latter drizzled in Szechuan sauce and served with pommes cocottes and confit mushrooms. French classics such as confit duck a l’orange and chicken fricassee feature in traditional mains, while there’s a host of freshly-caught Scottish fish seafood, which includes a glorious line-caught halibut with glazed pig trotters and a delicate crab cappuccino.

There’s also hand-rolled pasta on The Honours menu, while the wine list is a sophisticated 17-page selection of French and New World wines and signature cocktails. The interior of the Honours restaurant is laid out in an elegant, formal brasserie style.

On North Castle Street, The Honours looks out over Queen Street Gardens, and is less than a mile from Edinburgh Station.

The food was fantastic, the only fault l would say is that there wasn't enough time in between courses.

It was a fantastic lunch - we ate from the fixed price menu which offered a tasty, varied & seasonal choice. Our sprizers were perfect & the service friendly, discrete but efficient! Definitely go again.

Excellent experience for our first time together in Edinburgh. I glad we booked here.

With an understated level of class and uber friendly staff (in a positive caring manner), we were immediately put at ease. Carefully ushered to th right places at the right times.

Atmosphere was cosy and sophisticated, people were in smart but relaxed clothing, and the air was a buzz with lively conversations.

I ordered a fish based menu. We received some advice on the choices available and the waitress at the time was very knowledgable. In fact we were served by no less than 5 people all of who made were in sync and didn't ask twice.

The food was excellent. Good portions with a depth of flavour that was expected at this price. I would recommend the scallops and tagliatelle for starters and the John Dory for mains. We opted for an additions side of green beans too.

Overall it's was exactly the experience we were hoping for on our only night in Edinburgh. Thank you.

Very limited food choice on the set menu and extremely small portions. Risotto particularly poor and almost unedible and it's side dish was tiny and so bad it seemed like a joke. Lack of garnishes to improve appearance of food. Meals and wine overpriced for what was served up. However, pleasant staff and efficient service in attractive environment. Would not return.
