I had the lamb and it was to die for
29 September 2016
Situated in a historic village over the River Crouch, The Hawk in Battlesbridge dates back to the 17th century, still a charming country inn. Serving time-honoured British pub dishes, The Hawk has pretty, extensive gardens with seating for al fresco dining. Inside, the rustic oaken beams, cosy hearth-fire and local antiques diversify the furnishings, but aid the country feel.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Hawk menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies designed by celebrity chef James Martin offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Hawk ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Hawk is just 2 minutes’ walk from Battlesbridge Train Station, in Essex.

Well worth a little wait for our food. We all had different roast dinners and each one was tasty, well presented and plentiful. Desserts were yummy too. Shame they had run out of the chocolate bomb but as it was a new menu I'm sure they will sort that out! The staff were lovely and friendly and made us feel very welcome. All in all a wonderful visit. Thank you 'The Hawk '

Well presented old pub in a pretty village. Online booking easy but on the phone for some time trying to determine whether pub could prepare a vegan dish. A carrot salad offered! On the day there was an avocado and beetroot ciabatta with a kale and red pepper soup which was very nice. Menu offered soya milk for coffee but this was not available; very disappointing. Waitress lovely and really looked after us and gave the children lots of special attention.

Service excellent. Waitress cheerful and very helpful. Good menu choice and we took advantage of the special Wednesday night meal deal with wine.

Very interesting venue as there was so many things to look at. The dining experience was lovely, we had a very welcoming waitress by the name of Jane, made us feel very welcome and helped us choose from the menu. We had a mix of roast dinner and fish dish between our party and the food was nicely cooked, generous portions and delicious. The on line booking service was very easy to use.

Always good food. Had the vegetarian roast dinner this time, delicious! I was apprehensive as I've had nut roast before but this was something else. What was also great, I didn't miss out on the roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding carrots etc and gravy. I also like the new booking on line ability. If it wasn't for my waistline I would eat here every week because it's also very affordable. Particularly like locally sourced products, ie sources, cider, beer etc. Likewise your staff have always been nothing but courteous and helpful. Beautiful and clean surroundings. I would like cloth napkins or more than one quality paper one, recycled if possible. Keep up the good work ??

On arrival we were denied the table where we wanted to sit.
We waited quite awhile for our drinks before eating, the service after that was quite good.
The fixed price menus should be made clearer to the customer.
