Food amazing. Service great

Situated in a historic village over the River Crouch, The Hawk in Battlesbridge dates back to the 17th century, still a charming country inn. Serving time-honoured British pub dishes, The Hawk has pretty, extensive gardens with seating for al fresco dining. Inside, the rustic oaken beams, cosy hearth-fire and local antiques diversify the furnishings, but aid the country feel.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Hawk menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies designed by celebrity chef James Martin offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Hawk ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Hawk is just 2 minutes’ walk from Battlesbridge Train Station, in Essex.

Long wait for lunch. Service not so great as they were busy and concentrating more in doors than outside

Nice surroundings and staff, food overpriced, service slow and they had to be reminded to produce a sweet that had been ordered

Totally disappointed with this visit, I just can not believe that it took 3hrs to have a 2 course meal, seated at 3pm after an online booking and got out at 6pm, that is after we went and found someone to take our payment, we could have just got up and walked out and not paid. This is not normal at the Hawk for us we often visit and most times satisfied, please try and get it right !!!!

Lovely donuts. Lovely restaurant. Took a little while for food to come as they seemed fully booked. But didn't spoil anything at all. The staff were very friendly and helpful

I had beer battered cod but frankly there was more batter than fish and it was quite dry

We received a friendly and warm welcome at the Hawk and were seated when all our party arrived. The menu was good and fairly priced. Although busy the staff were attentive and efficient. Would definitely recommend The Hawk. I have been many times and the decor, WC's and ambiance are also very nice. Sometimes parking is an issue but this time we were lucky.
