One of London’s longest running music venues, The Half Moon is a vintage style pub serving traditional British dishes to a backdrop of trendy, live music. Taking pride in its extensive bar, it boasts an excellent wine-list compiled by the in-house wine expert, and a good variety of real ales and classic cocktails.

The delicious menu of classics includes whole rainbow trout in beer-soaked newspaper served with skinny fries, Sirloin minute steak with sauteed new potatoes & onion rings, and linguini with creamy white wine, mussels & cherry tomato sauce. The decadent dessert menu features moreish banana & raisin bread and butter pudding with lashings of homemade custard.

With colourful furniture, vintage books & décor, and deep sofas to sink into, The Half Moon boasts an eclectic but laid-back ambience. With large arched windows letting the daylight stream in, the pub is situated near the banks of the Thames at Putney Bridge.

The Half Moon in Putney is a 10-minute walk from Putney Rail Station.

    Badly under-staffed.
    Slow service.
Food arrived almost cold and meat ordered well done arrived rare.
All in all, a very disappointing experience and would not recommend and will not be returning.

I would have given your restaurant 10/10 if it wasn't for one small matter, which both my Wife and I found disappointing to say the least. We both ordered the "Special Roast" which listed beef, lamb, chicken and several vegetables including cauliflower cheese ( I can't off the top of my head remember them but they will be on your current menu). When the meal turned up it had only carrots, which were not on the menu. Very disappointing. Had we been told when ordering you didn't have the vegetables listed, with carrots as substitutes, we could have made a choice to either go with it or choose something else? Other than that we do enjoy having a meal at The Half Moon prior to the entertainment, which is why we make the one hour journey to Putney.

Very friendly and efficient staff but, unfortunately, the food was not good. There was a very limited menu (just ordinary English fare & burgers) and, when the food came, it was pretty poor. I would not eat at the Half Moon again which is a pity as the atmosphere in the venue is really good.

The pub is lovely but we had to order separately so our party all received this food at different times and some was cold.

This was the first time we had visited this pub so had no idea of what to expect except the images on their web site. The first impression was rewarding, music playing and not too busy in the restaurant to be noisy. We were shown to our table promptly and offered menus and specials on offer. There was a good and varied choice on the menu, and not to extensive which implied fresh and made to order. The drinks , starters ( Apple and Celeriac soup, and Flatbread with chorizo) and main meal ( Cheese Burger and chips) all arrived in good time, Although one of the burgers was slightly rare than we would have liked, this did not spoil the meal. There was a general feel that the staff were genuinely happy in the roles which was a pleasure to see. The whole evening was a joy and we would revisit if we were in the area again.

Great food and excellent service. The cheeseburgers were excellent. We decided to eat here before the Thea Gilmore gig, we will definately be coming again.

It was not good. Service was very slow: it took an hour and 10 for our order to arrive. The waiter was very apologetic and explained that there had been kitchen staffing problems, finally. Up until he admitted that, he said "they were just plating up", and then another 10 minutes went by. May I suggest that it is better to be open with customers and tell them what is happening rather than cover it up. If he or a manager had explained it might have been less annoying. As it was, having booked a table for 7 so that we had comfortable time to eat before the gig, we missed the first 10 minutes because our food had only just arrived. The waiter did take our drinks off the bill but even so....

Great atmosphere. Very helpful staff. We all had burgers which were very good indeed. Only disappointment was the chocolate and ice-cream cake. The fruit sorbets were lovely but the chocolate layers were very thick, hard to break into and only of average taste (? cooking chocolate?)
