The Green Room in London serves ethically sourced British food in a contemporary and theatrical space. In collaboration with local social enterprise Coin Street Community Builders, the National Theatre presents an innovative restaurant, bar and garden, where all profits support the National Theatre and local communities.

Mixing American diner dishes with British classics, The Green Room menu is packed with mouth-watering meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Meat-lovers can try slow-roasted pork ribs marinated in barbecue sauce, or the signature burger made with prime beef, Monterey Jack cheese, and an onion marmalade. Equally enticing are the hearty grilled calamari with pesto and slow-cooked winter vegetables, and the spicy vegan sloppy Joe with black beans, jalapenos and chipotle.

Inside The Green Room from the National Theatre, props and scenery from the theatre’s shows create a unique dining space. Outside, a sustainable garden creates an urban oasis a stone’s throw from the Thames.

A short stroll from The London Eye, The Green Room South Bank is a 6-minute walk from Waterloo Train Station.

We enjoyed our meal. Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.

Friendly and very efficient service. Calamari and Grilled Hake were excellent. Grilled veg + hummus a bit bland. Wine at the lower end OK but not more. Jolly atmosphere and very handy for National Theatre

We had an enjoyable evening - good food and drink. Attentive but not over attentive service. the only down-side is the noise but only a little one - it is popular!

Atmosphere was great, food was okay but the service was disappointing - twice the waiter forgot to log our order (first drinks then dessert) leaving us waiting a very long time. Luckily we weren't in any rush!

My wife and I had a good pre-theatre meal. She had the burger, I had the pork chop which we both enjoyed. The menu is simple straight forward fare.

The place is a good venue for a pre-show bite if you are going to the National Theatre: they can sell you the programme for the show and put it on your bill. A great idea.

The staff are good: they could not be more friendly and helpful.

They do draft craft beers that I like; as well as good wines by the glass.

The pricing is reasonable for the location.

And now the downside...we nearly froze to death. The building is a very modern and funky using low cost materials and lots of glass. It has floor to ceiling sliding doors at the end opposite the entrance and we were seated next to one of these doors. There was a crack between the panels through which a gale of ice cold wind was blowing. It was bitterly cold and such poor insulation seems at odds with an otherwise modern building. In the summer it is probably most enjoyable that they can slide the doors open, but on a cold March evening I would avoid sitting by those doors or wear ski gloves!

Amazing food!! Slightly awkward shaped tables though- you're always sat a bit too far from each other for my liking, you have to talk up quite a lot especially as it's rather loud. Not something to put you off though, the food is delicious and the desserts are sublime!

Good food - we had hake which was delicious despite having a bit too much salt. It's very handy for the BFI where we were going and for the rest of the South Bank. Only criticism is that it's a cafe with restaurant food and the acoustic is poor. It's therefore very noisy, and everyone ends up shouting at each other.
