Originally a charming cottage styled as a farmhouse, and valuing its rustic appearance, The Golden Retriever near Bracknell features chunky oak beams, cobbled brickwork and a pretty garden from which you can dine. The cosy hearth-fire also warms in winter, another place to enjoy the well-loved menu of classic British meals.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Golden Retriever menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Golden Retriever ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Close to Bramshill Forest, The Golden Retriever is just 6 minutes’ drive from Bracknell.

Puddings were a big disappointment eg carrot cheesecake was not a cheesecake but a solid piece of carrot cake. Trife was not a traditional trifle. Duck main course was very good.

A very enjoyable meal, a few things not available, but it was a Sunday evening, staff were very good.

After my wife telling me that she no longer wished to dine out because she had been so disappointed with so many restaurants, I was surprised when she said yes to my offer to eat out yesterday. We hadn't dined at the Retriever for a couple of years and the quality of the meal and service were above her highest expectations. The three course special provided a superb choice at remarkably good value and our waiter was very attentive and most helpful. You have restored my wife's faith in dining out and many of the well known chains would do well look at what you are doing and copy you. Thank you for an excellent evening.

Excellent well cooked food served promptly. The service was good and friendly in spite of the restaurant being fully booked.

Lovely ambiance, very good service. Not keen on anchovies in a Caesar salad, made it to fishy and salty. Pudding was lovely.

The food and service is always very good, however silly mistakes make it a disappointing experience. In the last 3 visits something has not been right and had to be corrected (to be fair I was compensated each time with a significant discount on my bill, but I'd rather they got it right first time). In this instance we'd ordered 2x Thai Curries and we were given 2x Lamb dishes (and that was after some considerable wait, although I wasn't bothered about the length of time it took as we were out for a quiet evening out, but obviously I was annoyed to receive the wrong meals and then have to wait even longer). I'm afraid I will not be considering this to be my go-to place for a while (which it has been for the last year).

Restaurant busy and service slow but acceptable as it was a Saturday. Staff very helpful and "service with a smile". Menu good and food generally good with the exception of my hunters chicken and that was cold. Did not complain at time as I had family from Canada with me and did not want to embarrass them. Usually would have complained.
