Situated between the eye-catching South Yorkshire countryside and Rotherham, The Golden Ball in Whiston boasts great views from its anterior garden for al fresco dining. Offering well-loved British pub food from a time-honoured menu, it also features a welcoming hearth-fire and classic wood and brick furnishings.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Golden Ball menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Golden Ball ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

We really enjoy the dining experience at he Glden Ball although on this occasion the toad in the hole was undercooked. The roast beef Sunday lunch was excellent .

Most Disappointed with the Golden Ball. I have dined there regularly for a number of years with different friends but last night the food was very disappointing. Over cooked fishcakes, cold broccoli, 2nd choice of dessert which happens every time I dine there, they take your order, then 5 minutes later come back from the kitchen to say they don't have that available so you choose something else. Last night my second choice was Eton Mess that I have had before but again a disappointing choice. Smaller portion, on a plate and not in a glass as previously served, more like a trifle with hardly any meringue. Even the cappo was like water so all in all zero score. They need to keep a check on reviews as the restaurant was very quiet when we dined there. I also had to ask for the Fixed Price menu to review, this wasn't offered to me, I had to go and find a member of staff .

Really friendly staff always have a lovely dining experience food served very quickly and our host Lou was very attentive and made us feel very welcome overall one of the best in the chain of vintage inns

It was my husbands birthday treat. The meal was fabulous and the service excellent. My only minor criticism was that the meal was too big for 1 person.

Plenty of interesting dishes to choose from but quite a few where unavailable, including my choice of main course and dessert. This was also the case on my last visit to this restaurant. The meals we did have where very nice and the portion sizes were ample. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and I felt sorry for the waitress as she had to keep apologising to customers for the dishes they requested but were not available. I could understand it if it was late in the evening but we were ordering our meals at 6:50pm!

Table booked for 8pm. & we actually got seated at turned 8.30pm.
The service was very poor & the people on the next table ( who was seated later than us) got their meals before us, & it was obvious that our food had been stood a while. A jug of water was ordered with the meal, that never arrived & we couldn't find a member of staff to remind them. When we was ready to pay, there was no staff to take our payment, if we had been dishonest we could have just walked out with out paying. Yes the place was busy, however there was plenty of staff about, but kept disappearing. My heart went out to the girl on the bar, who was trying to cope with the busy bar on her own, when another member of staff eventually arrived, we mentioned about it not fair the girl being on the bar alone at a busy time, it was just shrugged off. She then went on to say we could not have the discount we had been awarded, but we argued this & under duress was given our discount.
We have dined here before & although they do tend to be late getting you to your table, the excellent food more than made up for this. But after Saturday nights service not sure I'll be going again.

This is my second visit to the Golden Ball, Whiston in as many weeks. Last night it was very quiet (probably due to the football) but the service was very slow. On my previous visit I enjoyed a lovely goats cheese tart, this wasn't available this time (I was informed whilst placing my order). Also on the sweet menu I asked for Eton cheesecake (wasn't informed it wasn't available) until I had ordered and the waitress came back from the kitchen and informed me it would be peanut butter cheesecake instead, this happened the week before so clearly it needs removing from the menu if they cannot source it. I gave this a miss as it wasn't my choice and hadn't enjoyed it the previous week as very sweet and stodgy.
