The visit was for a special occasion so the fillet of beef wellington was ordered. Three different waitresses served our table each not knowing what the other had done.
I was informed by the waitress it was the last beef wellington. We had starters but the plates weren't cleared away before the waitress turned up with the main course. The main course was presented reasonably well. The roast potatoes were VERY well done though. On trying to cut into the beef I was unable to get my normal knife through it. (No steak knife given). When I lifted the pastry to get to the meat I discovered the beef was raw. Not rare or blue even, it was raw. Expecting a very tender fillet I was disappointed to find grisly sinew running through it. At £21 a go I feel this is not acceptable. When we complained about it the waitress offered to take it away. To do what I'm not sure. There wasn't a replacement as I had the last one. I didn't want the steak cooking again. It had already been seared prior to being wrapped in pastry then supposedly cooked in the oven. Besides which it would then be a fillet steak and not a beef wellington. I asked for it to be removed from the bill which it was.
This was very disappointing as it was a special birthday celebration.
The general look of the place is 'tired'. There was veg on the floor from previous customers.
This has put us of returning any time soon to repeat the experience.

Excellent ambiance, service and food. The mains (honey-glazed ham hock, sea bass risotto, couscous salad and steak pie) were all enjoyed and were a cut above normal pub cuisine. Most of the desserts were also enjoyed except for the sherry trifle which was too big and overladen with cream. Very good selection of drinks though I was disappointed that the intriguingly-named Brewdog Nanny State was out of stock.

We really enjoy the dining experience at he Glden Ball although on this occasion the toad in the hole was undercooked. The roast beef Sunday lunch was excellent .

Most Disappointed with the Golden Ball. I have dined there regularly for a number of years with different friends but last night the food was very disappointing. Over cooked fishcakes, cold broccoli, 2nd choice of dessert which happens every time I dine there, they take your order, then 5 minutes later come back from the kitchen to say they don't have that available so you choose something else. Last night my second choice was Eton Mess that I have had before but again a disappointing choice. Smaller portion, on a plate and not in a glass as previously served, more like a trifle with hardly any meringue. Even the cappo was like water so all in all zero score. They need to keep a check on reviews as the restaurant was very quiet when we dined there. I also had to ask for the Fixed Price menu to review, this wasn't offered to me, I had to go and find a member of staff .
