Good overall. Food could have been a little hotter. Terre a Terre vegetarian restaurant in Brighton is superior in terms of food and value.

service was poor. I wanted to know what a certain main course entailed as was unfamiliar with word used on menu. Waiter started to woffle and it was clear he didn't know what it was so he had to go and ask the chef. Please- inform the waiters what each dish is so they can answer customers straightaway without the woffle. My friend's risotto was overcooked, was crispy underneath. we mentioned that to waitress who cleared our plates away but she didn't seem bothered. I had the feeling the restaurant wants to be trendy and pack people in but we wont be going again as we didn't feel our custom was valued. I've been here twice before- the 1st time was great, second time not so good but not this time was poor.

Went to the Gate as part of the London Restaurant Festival 2013 to have dinner with a vegan friend. Food was good, and staff were very friendly. Atmosphere was upmarket but unpretentious.

The Gate is a wonderful restaurant with great service and amazing food!
The dishes are creative, taste great and resemble a little work of art on your plate. Also they are well sized and priced very reasonably.
I can recommend going here to anybody, especially people who want to take a vegetarian out for a nice dinner without having to feel like they are cutting back on their own culinary standards because of eating vegetarian. A truly great spot and I will definitely go back there and introduce new people to this.
I'm sure they can also arrange to cater for large groups if you book in advance - the mezze is delightful!
