Food was great, staff friendly and helpful. We went for my 11 yr olds birthday and they made him feel very special.

A tranquil conservatory-style eatery looking out over beautiful grounds, The Garden Restaurant at The Winchester Royal Hotel is a charming escape at this 16th-century hotel. Imaginative British fare is complemented by an extensive wine list and local beers, while the classic afternoon teas can be enjoyed in the gardens, weather permitting.

Modern takes on wholesome British recipes are beautifully presented on The Garden Restaurant menu. The freshest seasonal ingredients are used throughout, as seen in starters like confit rabbit terrine with plum and rhubarb purée, and hearty mains including oven-roasted lamb rump with chunky vegetable and butterbean ragoût, spring onion mash and redcurrant jus. Delicacies for vegetarians include exotic mushrooms with garlic and parsley cream in a puff pastry case, while from the grill there are succulent cuts of steak, and a signature burger. There is also a dedicated children's menu.

Afternoon teas at The Garden Restaurant at The Winchester Royal Hotel hold true to celebrated British traditions, offering soft finger sandwiches with a range of fillings, as well as scones with jam and clotted cream, exotic loose leaf teas, and glasses of prosecco for an indulgent treat.

A stunning example of British tradition mixed with innovative luxury, The Garden Restaurant is just round the corner from the stunning Winchester Cathedral, and only 8 minutes' walk from Winchester Rail Station.

On possibly the hottest day of the year the dining room was lovely and cool with descrete fans going. Our waitress was very friendly and obliging. We had the £10.95 2 course lunch which was most enjoyable. I had wine and my friend had orange juice and we had a jug of iced water which was most welcome after walking there in the heat. A very pleasant way to spend an hour.

We had the Royal Afternoon Tea. The waitress was very friendly and we enjoy the afternoon tea very much. The view of the garden from the restaurant was also very pleasing.

Really lovely place to dine. Beautiful conservatory overlooking the garden. The food was cooked perfectly and the service was quick and polite.
    Couldn't have asked for better.

The staff were friendly, but when we were greeted at 12:55, it was as if the restaurant was not ready and we were asked to wait in the lounge. At 13:15 I went to find out what was happening and then someone made up our table and called us through. The restaurant was pretty deserted, although more people came in for afternoon tea as our lunch progressed. The food was good, although it would have been nice to have been offered more gravy on our roast beef, as was the service. The choice on the menu was fairly limited and it would have been good to have a bit more choice. When I asked for the bill, I was just told the total amount and was not given printed details. When I paid, the credit card machine failed to contact the bank, but it did not print a failed transaction receipt and I had to put my PIN in a second time and hope I was not going to be charged twice. I feel that the standard has gone down compared to other occasions we have gone there for Sunday lunch. Has there been a change in ownership or management I wonder?

The location was easy to find and had a lovely garden view. They were accommodating to changing the sandwiches for me as I'm pregnant and couldn't have what they provided

Food and restaurant was excellent. The sevice was very good until we asked for the dessert menu. The menu was given to us, but it took about 15 mins for someone to come and take the order by which time I did not want a dessert. (the moment had passed). We then had to ask twice for the bill, when the bill did arrive we ended up getting up to leave and left the signed bill with a passing member of staff. due to not wanting to wait any longer.
