Superb cooking with great service

Inspired by the coastal eateries of California, The Gallivant is perched right beside the Camber Sands dunes. This laid-back, relaxing setting has al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air look and out across the beach, and showcases a great variety of modern British dishes.
Set in an area rich in local produce, The Gallivant menu tries to source every ingredient from within a 10 mile radius. There are tastes of the seafront with dishes like smoked haddock with Rye bay cockles, spring onion and cured mayo, and classic favourites such as saddleback pork chop with creamed Morghew potato and smashed swede. On Sundays, there are generous roasts with fresh Bloody Marys.
Delectable desserts at The Gallivant in Rye come beautifully presented, with treats like buttermilk panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet and granola. The wine list features over 130 bottles, including carefully selected English vintages.
A beautiful coastal treat that holds a charming holiday feel, The Gallivant is just an 8-minute drive from Rye Rail Station.

The food was good, not very hot anyough the plates were. The knives arnt sharp at all, which is a problem with s roast. The chapel down wine wasn't cold enough.

Disappointing. Such a shame, lovely location and nice looking beach restaurant, attentive but not well informed staff, really fussy menu. No usual favourites with a fresh twist as you expect from the website, just prissy, fine dinning little dainty dishes. When we went it was full of kids and there was no kids menu. Our kids ended up eating bread and chips!! Shame as it could be such a great place if it did more real beach food. Maybe they should look at menus like the beach hut at watergate bay!?! My glass of wine was just five sips! Big glass with a little wine at the bottom.... not good for the soul!!

Excellent place. Can park there all day and go for walk before or after meal, which makes life easy. They also accept dogs inside which again is great.
Love the seats that are covered in sheepskin, very comfy.
Also for those eating on the terrace they have blankets which is a nice touch.

Really lovely casual lunch

Terrible. We were seated in a dingy, echoing corner next to a large party table whose noise and it's amplification due to enclosed space made our own conversation impossible as we couldn't hear each other. We left after the main course as we couldn't wait to get away from the racket.
