One of the best restaurants we have ever been to. Food was spectacular and the service was wonderful. Nothing was to much trouble. Will definitely be going back.

We had the haddock starter with Rye cockles, but the starter was all potato with only one cockle! We struggled to explain to the waiter the problem, but when he grasped it, he brought us a little pot of them which was lovely. The gnocchi starter was tasty but the goats cheese was overwhelmed by the garlic. We had steak and lamb for our mains, and the lamb in particular was perfectly cooked and delicious. I would recommend the lemon meringue for dessert. It was deconstructed when it came but was delicious and perfect. We had Irish coffees to finish but they were overpriced, lacking in alcohol, and pretty much any flavour. The only disappointment to a great meal. We liked being able to buy the wine by the glass, carafe and bottle, and the selection was very good too.

This is my 4th visit in around 4 years and I was really looking forward to going but it was my least favorite visit. Service wasnt very attentive and a bit indifferent. Menu was almost the same as when I came a year ago. I Ordered a Bloody mary which was pretty basic, nothing special. Ordered the ham Hock Terrine and it didnt come with any toast or bread, the staff appeared bewildered we might like bread with it and we were charged a further £2 for it. Roast beef Sirloin was fine but again, nothing special. I love the Gallivant, but it was just missing something this time around, hopefully it was just an off day. I would also like to see a childrens menu, they only offer half portions of the normal menu which is not only small, it isnt terribly Child friendly, luckily mine isnt a super fussy eater but I would imagine some parents would struggle with the menu for their kids. I would return if they updated their menu but I'll give it a miss for a while until they do.

It has been a while since our last visit as we have recently moved back into the area. It has been revamped since our last visit. The restaurant is pleasant and casual with pleasant staff. The menu was a little limited but what we had was good

Very relaxing atmosphere with a great level of service. Food was to a high standard with great local ingredients. Menu choice a little limited but what is there is to a high standard and well worth the money.

Usual excellent meal, portions just the right side for us. Particularly enjoyed chicory tart and Kentish blue starter. Catch of the
day, a small Dover sole with very small shrimps and buttery special sauce was superb.
Shame they are running out of Chapel Down Flint Dry till 2016 vintage on market.
    We'll be back again!

We enjoyed the meal very much. We live locally and have dined with you on many occasions. One comment is that the acoustics in the restaurant, when busy, are very bad. It is difficult to have a conversation with guests. Can nothing be done to help this, say more rugs , carpet or something to help in this respect.

Also when we visited in the summer we dined at lunch time with grandchildren aged 6 and 8. There was nothing specifically on the menu for children and they had to have half portions of adults meals. At that age they tend not to be too sophisticated and it was difficult to feed them! We appreciate you may not want to serve children meals in the evening but surely some concession could be made in that respect at lunch time. In fact we would not want to visit again with the grandchildren , or recommend it to friends who have young children, if this is not remedied. In short the restaurant is not child friendly!

We visited The Gallivant for lunch on New Year's Day and as usual, they didn't disappoint. It is the perfect place to visit on a winter's day. Fire's, furs, excellent local wines (I had the Chapel Down fizz), and wonderful food. My husband had the Sussex Red Sirloin, I opted for the vegetable pasta (which was really tasty) and our 7 year old twins had the (healthy) fish and chips (which they loved). Then we finished it off with a melt in the mouth, sticky toffee pudding. Staff will do anything to please. It is a wonderful place which we have enjoyed during the Summer and Winter months. It also has beach style accommodation and is directly opposite the Camber sand dunes. What's not to love! Give it a try any time of the year. You'll be glad you did.
