I had the steak with peppercorn sauce, my partner had the stick duck salad after a shared starter of artisan rustic bread. The food was absolutely perfect and the serving staff friendly and attentive. The fox has an excellent ambience and is very professionally run.

    Booking service very straightforward.
    Friendly welcome and good service.
Food excellent - good range and all the dishes we ordered lived up to or exceeded expectation.
Slight delay in service but the quality made it worth a wait.
    Definitely recommend.

Good food, shame no chicken but lamb was good. It's the general ambience though that shines through, great atmosphere

The serving staff were very pleasant but the service was extremely slow. I think they were very short staffed. Also we were placed near the service counter. So we constantly had a crowd of people around us, either waiting to pay or waiting to be seated. Not a very relaxing meal. Four of our main meals came at about the same time but we had to wait a few minutes longer for the side dishes. Three of the main dishes were excellent but the 4th one was below average. The chicken was too dry and the salad dressing was extremely fruity and sweet. We advised the waitress and she advised the kitchens and we were offered 1 free dessert. The desserts were excellent. Would definitely go back but not on a weekend and would request a better table. Also we were supposed to get a 25% discount as we went at 5pm but this did not happen. We did not realise this until we had left so it was our fault. But be careful as any discounts with Bookatable are not automatic, I think you have to advise the restaurant.

Well it didn't start well. Our table had been given to another guest so we were asked to wait. Then we were offered a table right by the entrance next to the display screen/order desk. We said it was not acceptable and then were given another table in a more pleasing position. The restaurant was very busy and everybody seemed to be ordering or awaiting food. The young lad who was rushing around gave us menus and said he would be back to take our order. After a while he returned and I ordered the scallops to be told they were off and whilst I was rechoosing the lad said the 2nd chef had not bothered to come in so service may be a bit slow. This was an understatement as time passed and we were quite hungry. Eventually the starters arrived with profuse apologies for the delay and they were both tasty the crayfish and crab and the lamb Koftas. The wait for the mains was much longer and again profuse apologies. The lad was doing his best but things were still delayed.
Finally the fillet steak(medium) arrived well done and I hadn't the heart to send it back as further delay was out of the question. My wife's salmon was good and went down well. We decided puddings were out and settled for 2 espressos which we were given on the house. The whole evening was stressful and I was glad that we had the 25% discount from you but felt that even this was not sufficient recompense for a very unrelaxing meal. The food was Ok but the delay was not.
We have been to the Fox before and had very good meals but never have had such a tense time as this. We arrived at 7.15 and left at 20 to 10.00.
Not the experience we were expecting.

Had a fantastic time, food great we had fish so well cooked and tasty and staff were very friendly the only problem was that there wasn't enough chefs in kitchen so the main course wait took longer thsn usual.

The place and service was brilliant, our only disappointment was the portion size of the salad. It was the most expensive of all our 3 meals and there was hardly anything there a few leaves and some peas and a little rice. Very diappointing for the price. This looked more like a starter portion.

Despite all the staff doing their utmost ( and they were all lovely!) our visit left a lot to be desired. We were seated promptly but although the restaurant was not overly busy we had a bit of a wait for our order to be taken. There was then a wait of nearly 45 /50 minutes for our starters to arrive and then nearly another 50 minutes or so for our main meals to arrive. Having ordered fillet steaks (some in our party) I'm sorry to say they weren't very good/ very fatty and for £25 was definitely not worth it I'm afraid, which is sad as we've usually had good service and good food in the past. We were told that they were a chef down but even so there was no recompense in any way and as the bill was approximately £50 pp we will not be hurrying back - we wouldn't recommend it just yet to anyone after our experience.
