With attractive views over the River Chelmer, but also in close proximity to the town, The Fox and Raven in Chelmsford serves traditional British pub cuisine, continuing its charming farmhouse heritage. The stately appearance of the pub matches the classic hearth and the bright outdoor seating for summer.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Fox and Raven menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Fox and Raven ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Fox and Raven is only 6 minutes’ drive from central Chelmsford.

Slow initial .presentation of food was basic.oil candles on every table unlit so perhaps shoild be removed altogether

Good main meal, delay with deserts even though restaurant was fairly quite by then, and then when they arrived they could have done being a bit warmer.
Suggestions - BRING BACK PIE WEDNESDAYS, BROADSIDE BEER AND FILTER COFFEES would speed up service, as it's always ready, and less staff are needed.

Starters and mains excellent but the trifle for desert was poor and did not live up to its menu description. Not really a trifle as I know it!

I booked this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with members of my family. The staff at the Fox & Raven were friendly and efficient. The dishes on the dinner menu were varied and no-one was disappointed with the choices they made. The food arrived fairly quickly and was presented and cooked well. There was a minor disappointment that the beers ordered by 2 members of the party were not available.

Staff were not fully knowledgeable of the menu and quite a few dishes were unavailable. Drinks order incorrect. Service not good. Food over-priced but tasted ok. Restaurant was busy so maybe we just went on the wrong night..

Disappointed that they ran out of one of the vegetarian meals as early as 1.15 and had to substitute gammon for lamb in the meat platter

  • (((** 14 October 2016 by Chris Peacock from Frinton-on-Sea

Very busy lunchtime but pleasant and attentive staff and no overly long delays. Food was of generally good quality and reasonable value for money. Ambiance and surroundings were above average for a pub restaurant. Pleasantly surprised all round.

Very children-friendly. Great outside dining area. Garden great for families to entertain their children. Extensive menu.
