Overlooking the pretty Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, The Fox & Anchor – Wolverhampton dates back to the 18th century, and serves vintage British pub cuisine in a beautiful countryside location. The seasonally-prepared food can be savoured from the warm hearth-fire in winter or the al fresco beer garden in summer.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Fox & Anchor menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Fox & Anchor ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The Fox & Anchor is merely 13 minutes’ drive from central Wolverhampton.

We had a lovely cosy table for four, the food was very good with excellent friendly service - really enjoyed the whole experience!

Arrived at the pub and was very pleased with its quaint atmosphere - log fire, arm chairs, very rustic. Was very busy, approached bar, told them of our reservation, seemed a little confused, as though they hadn't been expecting us. Though we attributed this to them being very busy. Awkwardly followed them through to main dining room where we were eventually seated. No reservation sign and in corner so believed we had indeed been forgotten about. A shame as it was a birthday meal. Nonetheless we were handed a menu and asked if we wanted drinks. Drinks arrived promptly but it took 35 minutes before our food order was taken - despite us looking round/trying to make eye contact/get their attention. Starters arrived, were pleasant. Main course then arrived promptly. Two of us ordered the steak and eggs as my daughter and her partner had had this dish before and had recommended the pub. Came with chips and a frittata. Unfortunately steak was grisly and frittata raw in centre. Other meals were okay, but after such a long wait we were a little disappointed. Had a 20% off offer attached to the reservation but they hadn't remembered this/it wasn't written down and, feeling sorry for the waitress who was already busy and rushed off her further, didn't want to inconvenience her so paid full amount and left. A real shame as my daughter has had positive experiences before. Also it is gorgeous inside and the staff are friendly, especially the waitress who served us. But service was very slow, not enough waiters/waitresses and we were disappointed by the overall quality of the food. We would recommend this pub, but think it is probably at its best when less busy, as it is not currently equipped to cope with demand. Overall our experience was average. Again, a shame as the pub really is so pretty, the menu so enticing, and the staff friendly. But, unfortunately, on this occasion it just didn't live up to expectation.

Unfortunately our dining experience was not a positive one. We waited over an hour for main meal. Only to be told they had run out of pizza dough so could we order something else. This took an extra 20/30 minutes. The main meals were extremely disappointing. I ordered Moroccan cous cous which was described as having pineapple, grapes and cider soaked raisins. My dish had none of these and instead was full of spring onion and chillies so I couldn't eat most of it. We waited a further 20 minutes after our meal for plates To be cleared away but they weren't. This was probably down to only 2 serving staff. Who were very pleasant but clearly rushed. Due to this we did not order
coffee or dessert. Very disappointed with price and quality of food.

Staff all pleasant, helpful and friendly-as usual. Food good too. Satisfied customer, been many times and will return. Only minor adverse comments are that the heating was on unnecessarily and I personally don't see the need for music playing. Neither of these would put me off from returning.

I love the location of this venue, the the style. It was a wonderful meal, and me and my partner really enjoyed it.
The staff seemed particularly overwhelmed that night though leaving long waits for service and it did have an impact on the night which was a shame.
